Ali Harper - Naughty & Nice
Project 2012-12-31 01:54:23 +1300
The recording weekend is booked in March, the musicians all set to go, the arrangements are being scrawled as you read this and more importantly 18 fabulous songs have been picked. The double album is to be called Ali Harper 'Naughty and Nice'.
Why? Well it's a bit of a running joke with friends and my audiences. I pride myself on being a little bit nice and whole lotta naughty especially as I get older! In my theatrical life I have done my fare share of pure, innocent leading lady roles and then when I do my concerts I turn things up a bit and pop in some deliciously naughty songs I have picked up on my travels.
Now... I want to record an album which will include 2 C.Ds (one side 'naughty' and one side 'nice') so that my audiences can take me home and relive those live crazy fun filled moments along with the beautiful and sentimental ones with some of NZ's finest musicians and arrangers based in Christchurch.
The team consists of arrangers; Richard Marrett, Michael Bell, Luke Di Somma, Gwyn Reynolds, Alex van den Broek and Cameron Pearce on Arrangements, Musicians; Richard Marrett, Tim Sellars, Mike Ferrar and Richie Pickard, Saxophonist Gwyn Reynolds, Cameron Pearce and Scott Taitoko and singer Matthew Pike. Aren't I a lucky gal! Your help would assist in covering this talented team's time.
I would LOVE you to be a part of this adventure!

It is amazing to have reached above and beyond our target amount. I so appreciate all your support and faith in me. With less then a week to go to purchase your own personally signed 'Naughty and Nice' album and May concert tickets in Wellington and Christchurch before they are released to the public in March see the rewards at www.pledgeme.co.nz/711. We had the photo shoot last weekend which was a lot of fun (A huge thank you to the wonderful Photographer Emma Brittenden, Make-up Artist Callie Sandford and Stylist Lucia Adriaens for making me feel 'N & N'). Next weekend we finally head into the recording studio. Happy days ahead xo

New Yorker Alex Rybeck joins our team
31/01/2013 at 12:14 AM
It is so wonderful that fabulous New York arranger, musical director and pianist Alex Rybeck has joined our team of arrangers for 'Naughty and Nice'.
Check out his illustrious career thus far. If you don't recognise some of the names he has worked with, they happen to be the creme de la creme of cabaret/musical theatre in New York.
ALEX RYBECK (Arranger) is perhaps best-known for accompanying and arranging for such stars of Broadway and cabaret as Liz and Ann Hampton Callaway, Faith Prince, Jeff Harnar ("The 1959 Broadway Songbook"), Karen Mason, Donna McKechnie, Rita (THE FANTASTICKS) Gardner, Lee Roy Reams, Jason Graae, Amanda McBroom, Marni (The Voice of Hollywood) Nixon, and the legendary Kitty Carlisle Hart, and Australia's David Campbell, to name a few. His Broadway credits include MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG (dir. by Hal Prince) and Tommy Tune's GRAND HOTEL, and he worked with Burt Bacharach on WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW. Among his mentors were Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Stephen Schwartz. Recipient of MAC and Backstage Bistro Awards, among other honors. Most recent CD's include "Herman On Herman" (Peggy Herman sings Jerry Herman), Kevin Dozier's just-released "Love's Never Lost", and Faith Prince's new album, "Total Faith".
In addition to musical directing, Rybeck is also a renowned vocal coach, and has served on the faculty of the International Cabaret Conference at Yale since 2005.
I first met Alex when I did the Conference at Yale 7 years ago. An amazing time!
