WHY?
Sadly too many students struggle to learn to read because of poor and/or outdated literacy instruction. We need to do better!
THE CHALLENGE
The Colour2Read Paper Chain Challenge will take place during October 2021 to coincide with Dyslexia Awareness Week (October 4 - October 11).
We want to raise awareness about dyslexia and funding to support students that struggle in the education system. The funding raised through this challenge will be used to purchase sets of decodable readers. These readers will be donated to schools that have shifted to teaching structured literacy and/or to community libraries.
What are Decodable Readers?
Decodable readers are books that are designed to align with explicit, systematic phonics instruction. They are stories constructed using words that are phonetically decodable, using letters and letter-groups that students have learned in structured literacy lessons. Students become more proficient readers when they learn to decode text rather than guess.
School or Library Nomination
To nominate a school or a community library to go into the draw to have a set of decodable readers donated please send a message to @colouredfishproducts on Facebook.
