Directed and written by Otto Tiatia, and produced by Nicholas Shillito, ‘To the Bottom’ is a dramatic short film about Eddie, a quiet teenager who shares a distant relationship with his alcoholic single father, Terry. After the loss of Eddie’s mother, the relationship between father and son has fractured, both retreating within themselves. Due to Terry’s toxic, drinking-fuelled behaviour, Eddie lives a miserable life, experiencing a constant barrage of insults and criticism from his father. This routine has become normalised, and Eddie has opted to stay silent rather than confront his father in any way. As their relationship rapidly deteriorates they struggle to overcome themselves, each other, and avert the point of no return.
A bit about us (aka Otto and Nick): We're both final year Communication students, majoring in Screen Production, at AUT, who are raring to bring this project to life, and create something with our great crew and soon to-be-confirmed cast. Crew-wise, we’ve got Reed Cathcart as our Assistant Director, Jordan Cooke (aka Daniel the hotshot, bad boy boom operator) on sound, Bjorn Harris-Juhasz as our cinematographer, and Quentin Hope on lighting. They’re a talented bunch, and just the right people to bring Otto’s script, which he poured his blood, sweat, and tears into, from page to reality.
The money you donate will go towards feeding our cast and crew for all three days of shooting, covering any transportation costs for our cast and crew, costuming our lead and around ten or more background actors, make-up, and props, as well as a small portion in reserve in case of any unforeseen disruption, or the need to pick-ups; if neither of those issues arise that portion would go towards post-production and promotion.
We’re thrilled to be working together and to be creating this story, and we’d be honoured for you to invest your expectations and money in our vision – we do not think we’ll let you down.

We are fully funded and our campaign is complete! Thank you to everyone who supported us and shared this project. We are so excited to get our production up and running, and will keep you in the loop with all our important milestones.

Hi everyone, even though lockdown has made all plans turn into a nebulous cloud of "?" this project is still very much alive! We're auditioning online now, and as soon as there is some stable ground beneath our feet, the project will be up and running again.
