Hi there.  My name is Michael Rowlands and I am a jazz guitarist from Wellington.  For the last year I have been planning and preparing for a trip to Berlin where I plan to continue my studies as a jazz musician. I plan to leave mid way though 2013 to start studying in September in Berlin. 


Some background 
I have been playing guitar for almost 12 years now and I fell in love with jazz music when I started studying it at The New Zealand School of Music 5 years ago. Since then I have been working as a music tutor at the Goodtime Music Academy and trying to decide what I want to do next.
My good friend Nicholas Bosman took the lead and suggested we meet up in Berlin to study jazz at the Berlin Institute of Jazz. This seemed like an idea choice for me considering that Kurt Rosenwinkel teaches at the school. Kurt has been a huge inspiration to me as a guitarist and has played a huge role in helping me find my own music voice. 

So here I am
I have been working extra hard trying to prepare myself for the trip. I have been learning german and practicing my butt off to get good for the audition at the school. I have been writing heaps of my own music so I will have some material to use to apply for the school. 

I have two jobs to save enough money so I can stay as long as I can but having the help of the Pledge Me community would be amazing. I am trying to save in the vicinity of $14000 and I am about halfway there. Pledge Me donations would be amazing.
