Kamusta and kia ora! I'm David, a mapmaker from the Philippines and a PhD student here in Aotearoa New Zealand. Right now, I am in a transition zone between studies, jobs, visa, etc. The urgent issue is that I've run out of my 3-year scholarship stipend 2 months ago and have only 1 PhD chapter left to write. So I would like to ask for your help to support me transition well and survive from studies to employment. I am really doing my best to finish despite the pandemic while maintaining good health and relationships. Also, I've been applying for mapping jobs since early last year when the pandemic started, but I had no luck so far getting any long-term jobs. I'm also lining up short gigs and few interviews at the moment.
So here's my ask from yous: for every 50 NZD you give, I will make an A3-sized, customised, and high-resolution digital map of your favourite place in the world. You could see samples of my work here. In the comment section of your pledge, please tell me any specifics, e.g. your style (minimalist, colourful, etc.) or any quirky requests - and your email address as well so we can discuss it some more for your taste. I'll do my best to get the data and make a lovely map for you the soonest after we reach the target amount for pledges. Then, you can print or share or reuse the map as you like.
The target amount will help me live in NZ for about 2 months. Also, I just want to be able to pursue options on where to live (e.g. flying back home to the Philippines and starting again if necessary) in the scenario that I cannot stay in NZ. I am very passionate about continuing to make maps for the people and places I deeply care about, and your support will really help me find ways to do that. I want to make 100 good maps and more, and I hope I can make one for you!
