About

Project Matooke

Project 2012-12-10 01:29:55 +1300

We (Bridget and Marly) are volunteering to share our skills in Jinja Uganda, working with Matooke design, helping to expand their business.

Help us get there!!

Description

Matooke design is a small family based business in Jinja Uganda who help support the local community by providing sustainable income and vocational skills. One of Matooke's goals is to establish employment opportunities so that local people are able to gain employment and pursue careers, providing for their families without relying on charity.

Our goal is to help Matooke Design by sharing our kn
owledge of artistic processes, textiles and design. We will be voluntarily giving our time to help teach efficient tailoring and design processes to aid Matooke in expanding their business.

What we hope to achieve at Matooke, is to unify their design and production processes in order to increase their business output. Because of our education, training, and workroom experience, this will be invaluable to them.

Marly has a bachelor degree in design, and has produced and sold her own jewellery. She also is qualified in costume construction and has experience in professional workrooms, including work for Weta workshop.

Bridget is studying a bachelor of design majoring in textile design. She has design experience working with private clients, and running her own small business. She has an passion for small business and getting up and coming designers noticed.

Both Marly and Bridget are extremely keen to utilise their skills and experience to help Matooke's business grow. To achieve this they need to fundraise to get over there and cover their living costs as they will be volunteering their time.

The funds will cover:

  • Travel
  • Travel insurance
  • Visas
  • Tools and materials
  • Basic living costs
