About

Inpatient Clinic For Eating Disorders In A Vineyard

Project 2021-02-11 22:28:11 +1300

The Mindful Collective is looking to collaborate with Rawanui Wines and create a new and much needed approch to eating disorder recovery.

Eating Disorders have one of the highest mortality rates of any psychiatric illness. There is also a huge lack of understanding in New Zealand and the world and resources to support those diagnosed or who are at risk of developing an Eating Disorder.

One part of the land purchased will be growing vines to produce wine and have a wine making facility onsite. On the other part of the land there will be a purpose built outpatient "home" that can house 5 patients at a time. The clinic will help people rest, learn and recover.

As well as a vineyard and clinic there will be a purpose built healing garden that is full of lush trees and colourful and calming flowers. Nestled amungst the garden will be quiet, peacefull areas where patients can come to to read a book, do some art or just be by themselves.

The clinic for the patients will be made by Genius HomesNZ. A 5 bedroom home with ample room for group sessions and individual treatment plans.

Ball

The large lounge area will hold group treatment and one on one treatment will be either in the garden on a nice day or in the privacy of their own rooms.

Treatment at the clinic will involve:

Family based treatment where the distinguishing characteristic of this treatment is that parents are recognised as the key resource to facilitate recovery of their child.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy the first line of treatment for bulimia and binge eating disorder. A present-focused, active and collaborative treatment.

Maudsley Anorexia Treatment for Adults where the patient and therapist will explore the strengths, resources and goals and values of the patient and develop a formulation of how the factors might maintain the anorexia in their situation.

Clinical Nutrition work looks at treating the body as a whole through nutrition; focusing on the consumption of natural, wholesome foods, supplements, and other positive lifestyle changes.

The Mindful Collective also understands that creativity is important in getting your feelings out so creative arts and yoga is part of recovery.

The Mindful Collective is currently a mental health charity and will fundraise to make this happen.

The Rawanui Wines vineyard will cover 1 hectare of land with vines and then also a building for the winery and teaching lab.

The remaining land will be covered in a healing therapeutic garden.

This link will show you the importance that being in a garden or tending to a garden will have on your mental health. It also shows the layout and ideas of the garden for the clinic surrounds. https://edition.cnn.com/2018/08/03/health/sw-horticultural-therapy/index.html

This clinic, vineyard and garden will help not only those struggling with an Eating Disorder, or those at risk but also provide support to their families and carers.

To be able to do this however we need your support.

This is a big job but a much needed and worthwhile one. There are many costs to consider before we can get this beautiful clinic into people's lives. From land deposit to cost of building the clinic and finding medical professionals.

We realise this will take a few years to grow to fruition but we need to start somewhere and quickly.
