Project 2012-12-07 05:19:24 +1300
The Knights of Team New Zealand are in the running! They are running towards Battle of the Nations in France, 2013 - alongside 25 other nations.
Team New Zealand would like to send a team of 5 to 8 fighters and support crew to compete in the 1v1 and 5v5 category battles. This fundraising effort will go towards the cost of our travel and accommodation estimated to cost between $2500 and $4000 per person.
What are they doing: Running 5km - in Medieval plate armour weighing in at 20 to 40 kg.
Who, when and where:
Charlie Tapsell: The on field Team New Zealand Captain will be running at Wharepai Domain in Tauranga on 9th February 2013, 10am to1pm
Rachael Forrest: Womens Team member will be running at Flinders Park in Johnsonville on 10th February 2013, 9am to 11am
Silver Claw: Team New Zealand member will be running at Christchurch on 9th February, 12 pm
What:
Charlie Tapsell: Running in 400m laps up to 5k in total wearing up to 40 kg plate armour (no helmet).
Rachael Forrest: Running 250 m laps to a total of 5 km wearing around 20 kg of plate armour with a victory lap in a chainmail bikini thrown in if she gets enough pledges.
Update - January 2013 - Rachael says: "
I really want to support my team, but we have a long way to go so I need a lot of help.
I am going to be running 5km in support of the NZ BotN Team, how much I wear is up to you! So start pledging and help NZ make it to their first international event.
The more you pledge the more armour I'll put on, and if my portion of the total pledge money earned reaches $1000 I'll even throw in a 400 m victory lap wearing a chainmail bikini.
I look forward to seeing all your pledges roll in!" This sounds brilliant - so make a pledge and remember that chainmail bikini!
Silver Claw: Running 2 x 2.5km laps of the Christchurch gardens im medieval armour.
Other runners are welcome to join in and generate more sponsorship for team New Zealand. Any volunteers express your interest to [email protected]. The project will be updated as they are confirmed
You can sponsor a runner for as little as $5
Put in how much you would like to donate, then click on the "reward" you would like to choose:
$5 = one lap for Charlie, Rachael or Silver
$10 = 1km with Charlie, Rachael or Silver
$15 = 1km for Charlie, Rachael or Silver
$20 = 2km for Charlie, Rachael or Sliver
$25 = for any volunteer even thinking of running in 40+ kilos of armour
$50 = 5km for Charlie, Rachael or Silver
$1000 = Rachael does a victory lap in a chain mail bikini
You can attend the event to watch or run or offer encouragement!
Why?
Team New Zealand needs $$thousands to get the team there - BUT this project will be viable from $50, as it is to help - not to entirely fund the team!
How does that sound to you?
Donate, make Charlie, Rachael and Silver run, and help get
Team New Zealand to the International Tournament!

Rachael will be at Flinders Park from 9 am on 10 February. It's only a little park, so she will have to run around it 20 times, also, it may take her a while, so she is also going to be selling sausages so you won't starve while watching.
Rachael would also like to invite her re-enactor supporters to come down and help her out by running a lap with her wearing their medieval clothes.
