MAIKIT - Diabetes Bag
Project 2020-09-10 10:55:33 +1200
Around 415 million people worldwide have diabetes, this is expected to rise to 642 million by 2040. Maikit provides a do all diabetes bag that eases the burden of carrying life-saving medical equipment.
My 30-year-old brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2018, so ‘MAIKIT’ began when he expressed to me his frustration at the limited options that would hold all his diabetes equipment safely, with great accessibility. It soon became apparent that this is an issue a lot of people all around the world are facing.
Unlike the select options worldwide, the Maikit design allows space for diabetes equipment and general items like a phone wallet and keys. The Maikit bag is designed with all genders in mind, plus incorporating multi-wear options, so you can wear your bag just how you like it. Crossbody, belt bag, strapless...the list goes on. Why should you have to carry a bag that serves one purpose, whilst carrying all other items in your pocket because there is no space?
The bag is currently in development under the Young Enterprise Scheme. As a part of the programme, I have been involved in Entrepreneurs in Action (2019) in Wellington, and in recent times, have attended the Dream Believe Succeed Mentoring event.
