As predicted, the debate around this year's referendum on the Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill has surfaced some nasty, divisive rhetoric. We're doing something about that. For three weeks before election day, WE DO is running a nationwide poster campaign featuring ordinary New Zealanders standing up to say that voting "Yes" is rational and compassionate – and that "Yes" voters fit no one's stereotype.
The gift of poster inventory by Phantom Billstickers and a $5000 cash donation have us most of the way towards covering our costs. We're giving our own time and skills to the campaign too.
This means we've been able to photograph about 50 volunteers from all walks of life to feature on the street posters and an accompanying digital campaign. But we still need to raise another $2000 to meet our budget for printing and other costs. That's why we're asking for your help. Please help us to get WE DO over the line and out to the streets.
Note that if we exceed our target, the surplus won't go to waste. We will be able to expand our digital campaign and we've already been talking to a friendly print company about other formats, including hoardings and even billboards. The more we get, the more we can give this thing.
It's not about whether you use cannabis or not. It's about doing what's right.
WE DO is created by Friends and Friends of Friends, which is registered with the Electoral Commission as a third-party promoter for the referendum. You can find more information about who we are, what we're doing and what the referendum means on our website:

We're delighted to say that our initial funding target has been very quickly passed. That means our nationwide billposter campaign is fully-funded, along with a separate run of A3 cafe posters and an expanded digital campaign. Now we have our sights on $10,000 and a newspaper campaign. It's all based on content we generated on Saturday, when the amazing Kieran Scott took the portraits of 68 people and Russell and Cleve talked to them about why they're voting "Yes" in the referendum. Their faces and their words *are* our campaign.
