About

Queer Confessions

Project 2020-08-04 13:07:22 +1200

"Queer Confessions" is the pilot of our documentary web series made by rainbow people, for rainbow people. Let's face it. LGBTQI+ representation within media is abysmal. Often only being portrayed through a narrow lens of thin, white, cisgender gay Men, it leaves many rainbow individuals feeling under represented. "Queer Confessions" bridges this gap, interviewing a range of queer people, showcasing the true diversity of the queer community. With the overarching theme of 'We're not there yet' in regard to identity-based exclusion, each episode will be focussing on a different aspect of New Zealand's acceptance towards rainbow individuals. For example, queer homeless youth; LGBT rights in healthcare, etc.

Where's your money going?

Your donations will go towards getting this web series off the ground! It will fund catering for the shoots, travel to for the crew, and submitting to festivals, just to name a few.

Complete cost breakdown:

- Film festival submission fees

- Licensing archival material

- Kai for the shoot

- Travel costs

- Small gifts for interviewees

- Gifts for the donors

- Contingency money

All money raised above our target will go towards future episodes of the series.

Who the heck are we?

We're a team of final year Television and Screen production students from AUT, who are passionate about creating content that educates, empowers, and inspires!

Theo Ruth (Director)

Theo is a Genderfluid filmmaker, cat co-parent, and Bowie enthusiast. Wanting to make a difference in representation in mainstream media, they plan to use their degree to continue making films that matter.

Ann Motuga (Producer)

Besides browsing through the web to find her next pair of sneakers to cop, Ann can be found digging through her producer notebook to assess what tasks are needed to be done. She’s a 3rd year communication student looking into majoring in Television Screen and minoring in Digital Media. Ann is passionate about creating important content.

Alice Burley (Cinematographer)

Meet Alice, the cinematographer for ‘Queer Confessions’. Alice is a third-year student at AUT, studying a Bachelor of Communication Studies, majoring in Television and Screen Production with a minor in Radio. Alice has a passion for visual storytelling and loves anything to do with art and film.

Jessica Lee (Lighting)

Jessica Lee is a third-year communication studies student currently majoring in television and film studies. She has a passion for storytelling through the visual art of the camera.

Waiata-Rose Monga (Sound)

Meet Waiata, our trusty sound operator. With two and a half years of television studies under her belt  she's looking forward to bringing our viewers  some quality audio for queer confessions.
