WAKE UP DOWN UNDER REACHING OUT TO THE WORLD

The Wake Up NZ Group is a youth group which has been inspired by a world wide youth movement of young people committed to supporting a sustainable and happy planet and inhabitants. Our focus is to live Mindfully, to take care of our bodies and minds and act with wisdom and compassion.

We start with understanding ourselves and the preciousness and wonder of life. Our New Zealand home base is the New Zealand Centre of Mindful Living, where we gain huge support and love from Sister Shalom (an ordained Buddhist Nun). The centre is based on the teaching of Zen Buddhist Master Thich Nhat Hanh and although these teachings are ancient they are completely practical, accessible no matter what spiritual or religious beliefs we have.

Many young people come to the centre to learn more about Mindful Living, meditation and caring for the planet. We now want to boost the grass roots energy of the 'Down Under Wake Up' movement by supporting one young person to spend time at one of the main centres in Europe.

Our successful scholarship applicant this year is an outstanding graduate from last year’s Youth Retreat, Michelle Dang. Michelle has been instrumental in seeding the ‘Down Under Wake Up’ movement. Her trip to the European retreat centre will help further grow this movement which in turn will provide more opportunities for young people in NZ looking for mindful options for their lives.

We need to raise $4320 to cover Michelle's basic travel expenses. She will also apply to the centre in France for support for her stay on retreat and she is already saving hard to meet the rest of her costs. She is committing to passing on the fruits of her training, so Michelle will fundraise for next year's recipient.

So here's an invitation to you to feather the wings of our Michelle. She has over 20,000kms to fly, so a
  • $50 donation will fly her 250 kms
  • $10 donation will fly her 50kms
  • And even a $5 donation will move her forward 25kms towards her goal … how great is that!
Thank you so much for your support for Michelle and growing youth mindfulness and leadership training downunder.
