Do Not Feed The Kea!

Hi, my name is Bailey and I'm 15. I enjoy art and am inspired by our native New Zealand birds. Recently I've combined the two, spending a fair few hours planning, designing and refining illustrations for a children's picture book.

This has resulted in an opportunity to have the book published by an independent publisher, called Copy Press. The book is called "Do Not Feed the Kea!" The story was written by a family friend and retired teacher, Carol Duffy. It's a fun, rhyming poem which engages children in joining in on the repeated phrase: Do Not Feed the Kea!  We are hoping to create a series of books that raise awareness of Aotearoa's much loved native birds. We believe children's books have a great impact on educating children and their families on how we can all have a positive impact on our environment.  I would love to see this book in schools, libraries and homes around the country. 

The first book Carol and I created was called, It's Time to Go!  It introduced our native birds and their habitats and habits to children through a lively rhyming story.  We had a lot of fun travelling around to libraries, schools and kindergartens sharing the book and reading to students around New Zealand.  We donated copies of the book to the children's ward at our local hospital.  The funds raised by Pledgeme will go towards publishing, printing and marketing costs.  We will also be donating copies to schools, early childhood centres and to the local hospital.
