About

HATENKOHRO Performing At SPLORE On 22nd Feb 2020!!

Project 2020-01-14 00:13:23 +1300

Who is HATENKOHRO?

HATENKOHRO is the incomparable mixture as Japanese performance troupe composed of four musicians and five actors.
Our creation is the theatrical musical play with performing Japanese classical dance, sword fight and modern dance in collaboration with musicians; violin, drums, base and eight strings guitar,
playing classic Japanese popular music of 17th century which is surprisingly modernized to metal rock sound.
HATENKOHRO inherits Japanese traditional culture and metamorphose it unexpectedly to the world that no one has ever explored.

We want to spread Japanese traditional culture as enjoyable entertainment.
Our show is traditional but non-verval.

Everyone can enjoy our show even if the audience speak other language or the audience have other culture.
We aim to collaborate with New Zealand culture, artists, creator and spread that collaboration in the world.
Creating new entertainment which has multiple cultures to live side by side, not only own culture.

New Zealand × Japan

We performed the show Europe,Asia and New Zealand not only Japan until now.

In March 2019, we performed in New Zealand.
Beforehand the performance, Hatenkohro collaborated with 3 parties and made the performance real cross-cultural event.

The 3 parties are:

"Hills Hats" http://hillshats.co.nz/

Wellington-based hatter which has a long history in New Zealand collaborated with KIMONO KOLLAB and made hats out of kimono (provided by KIMONO KOLLAB) for Hatenkohro.
Hills Hats makes commercial hats, uniform hats and also costume hats that appeared in movies such as "Last Samurai".

"KIMONO KOLLAB"http://facebook.com/KIMONOKOLLAB/

KIMONO KOLLAB is a project that gives new life to pre-loved Kimono together with artists all over the world.
Collaborating with artists all over the world to give vintage Kimono. Unitec Institute Costume department collaborated with KIMONO KOLLAB and students of the department designed and created costumes for Hatenkohro.
The theme was "火の鳥” which means "Phenix", chosen by KIMONO KOLLAB.

The Japan x NZ collaboration is getting attention and our article was published in "NZ herald".

Accordingly, we are considering to do promotion on newspaper or radio.

Most people think that is beautiful but calm and boring to Japanese traditional music or dance.
But of cause not only that.
We hope many people to know the side of enjoyable and the art people didn't know before at our stage.
Everyone will excite when see the HATENKOHRO show even though they can't understand Japanese language or they don't interest Japanese culture!

We want Kiwi to share that exciting!

The aim of this funding

Our aim is to become a popular artist who is active in the music scene or show business in New Zealand.
We can spread New Zealand culture to Japan more by proceeding cultural collaboration of Japan and NZ at the same time.
Unfortunately, Japanese people don't know much about New Zealand yet.
We want Japanese people to know charms of New Zealand more!

When the project success, HATENKOHRO will be recognized more than now and it will stimulate the cultural exchange of NZ and Japan!
