About

Krīdati - A Story Blending Circus, Theatre, And Live Illustration

Project 2019-12-17 14:40:03 +1300

The Project!

Presented by Manubrium Circus Theatre, our show "Krīdati", is an award-winning performance first debuted at the Auckland Fringe Festival 2018 where it received the "Best Circus" award. Having now performed in Auckland and Wellington in New Zealand, the team are super excited to be invited to perform at the Perth FRINGE WORLD Festival for 2020.

Despite Perth only being in our neighbour country - it's still really far away, and the cost of getting us there (as well as the stuff to make a show happen) is hard to do on our own as a new group of [struggling] artists. We need to find our feet to make an impact at the Perth international stage, so we can do well there and are set up for the other opportunities that lie ahead. With requests coming in from Canada, UK and Europe for performances, we would absolutely love to share this with them too if we can make our mark in Perth.

We believe it truly takes a community to make dreams come true, and this will be the first step where we can sustainably give back to all our amazing supporters through the rewards, and genuinely get started with sharing our NZ-grown performances with the world.

Our minimum funding goal will help contribute to the cost of flights for us to get there, and then the additional beyond that will help us get our marketing done to create great selling shows that generate enough of a seed fund meaning we can realistically look at the trying other international performances!

About KRIDATI

A circus inspired eulogy to the forgotten pillow forts of youth, Krīdati sidesteps the boundaries of our regulated world and invites you to rediscover a childhood peppered with possibility.

What happened to our fearless imaginations and how did our inner critics become so noisy?

Merging movement, circus and live art projection, the central characters fight fear with mischief, unpacking their relationships between artistry and ego. Taking humour, half a pinch of heartache, a dash of childhood games and a twist of nostalgia Kridati serves audiences one titillating tonic that might just be the cure… Drink up!

About Manubrium Circus Theatre

We are Manubrium Circus Theatre - an all-queer, multi-disciplinary group who create visual narratives to explore creativity and mental health.

Co-founded by Kiwi American duo, Ariel Kanuka and Jay Clement, Manubrium was created as a group build shows that have an impact and share personal stories, more than they focus on the spectacle of acrobatics. Bringing in skillsets of dance, theatre, and live visual art, their first show, Kridati, was born.

Manubrium is founded on values of ensuring accessibility, both in terms of ability and finance. Shows are priced accessibly for all, and have sometimes been koha (donation) entry where people offer what they can and would like to. Shows are family friendly, with extensions of touch-tours for those visually impaired, and a multi-sensory approach allowing deaf communities to partake.

$3000 so far and 3 more days!

17/01/2020 at 8:49 AM

We’ve cracked $3000 in pledges!!! This is incredible. That is our first two targets HIT

We are so grateful for all of your support, whanau. The practical difference that this will make to the success of this project is so significant, but more than that... these demonstrations of affection and support from our friends and family will carry us through each performance in Perth and each cool encounter with all of the other incredible international artists we will meet. We feel all warm and wrapped up right now, it really means the world.

Here are some of our favourite messages from our pledgers:

  • “I'm so proud of you and thankful for God's blessings in your life, love Mom 💖
  • “Fly High.”
  • “...oodles of joy & success...”
  • “How could I resist 3 private lessons with Jay!!! “
  • “It is a pleasure to get behind something so exciting and worthwhile.”
  • “Woo!!"

Target 3:

Can we make it to $5000 before the campaign ends??? It’s a wild push, there are only 4 days left, but we wouldn’t shoot for it if we weren’t flying high on the amazing success so far. If you missed it, our last post pulls the curtain back a little on the expenses so far, showing how this is an $18-20K project and where your pledges are making a  difference. Flights, freight, existing... you name it!

So here we go, down the home stretch team!

Eeekkk - One more week!

14/01/2020 at 3:02 PM

Holy Heck! We are so psyched and beyond thankful for all the help we've received from all you amazing supporters out there. After surpassing our baseline target in the first two hours, the PledgeMe campaign has continued to steadily see more and more donations which has helped bring us just over the $2.5K mark, and well on our way to the next goal, $3K.

With the Perth Fringe World Festival nearly upon us, expenses are stacking up. We've done some serious hustling, waited for sales on flights, utilised partnerships etc., and the bills are still $$$$. To give you an idea of where your moolah is going, here's a quick list showing some of the majors:

  • $3,500 in flights (saved over half the cost here!!)
  • $2000 in freight
  • $3000 for accommodation
  • $3000+ for marketing
  • $$$$ for licensing, consumables, packaging, and general show stuff.

There is one week left to pledge your support to this amazing show and the team behind it.

If you’ve already pledged, you can still share the page to your networks or encourage friends and fam to!

Otherwise drop in the pool the price of a cuppa, or pick up one of our super cool rewards for larger pledges (private circus tuition, makeovers, photography shoots and an unlimited supply of cheeky limericks are on offer among many other exciting thank-you gifts, from us to you).

As a sweeet litttle treat, we've attached the trailer to our show for those of you who are encouraging others to pledge (or have been following and just want to see what we're actually about), to check out.

So much aroha, team! Ya-hoooooo!!!

THANK YOU!!!!

24/12/2019 at 5:04 PM

Such a huge thank you to all our amazing supporters so far who have pledged their support! It means the absolute world to us and words fail to capture how incredibly grateful and excited we are.

The amount so far significantly helps with our flights and getting the gear over there (who knew cargo was SO expensive to sort out).

Our next goal is for $3000 to then be able to go down the paths of local advertising so we can get full houses - a huge step forward into getting nicely set up for future opportunities.

Thank you again and have a safe and happy holiday season <3

Share the word!! There are still a bunch of great rewards left and some of them are very limited and could make great gifts for people (private lessons anyone?). Share share share! xx
