The Extinction Paradox is the first production by Max Nunes Cesar’s Playnet Productions, whose mission is to create fun and engaging work that explores big questions with a focus on the future.   It looks to connect those who share a love of pop culture, science, technology, and who are engaged on the key problems the world is facing today. 

It is a play devised by the company, exploring humanity and our need and capability to work together with respect, but an ever-present awareness of sustainability. 

In The Extinction Paradox a group of friends are forced to quickly work through the inherent conflicts that trouble nations, communities and individuals.  Faced with climate change, the ethical extremes of technological advancement, and the potential harm that apathy and misinformation can bring- they have but this one opportunity to stumble through and try to save the world.

Our show opens on the 11th of February in Wellington’s BATS theatre, and devising, production development and engaging with the broader community on these big issues has already begun. 

We aim to take audiences on a whirlwind tour of how real people react to some horrifyingly plausible potential futures.  Through this, we hope to entrance, entertain and prompt some conversations about change, large or small, that might make impacts for us all.
