Hi there! My name is Martha and I am a teacher/stay at home Mum from Invercargill.
Eleanor Mae - 19 August 2019
My daughter Eleanor was sadly stillborn in August 2019 at 33 weeks. It was an unexpected and devastating experience for me, my husband Callum, our daughters Greta and Violet, and our families. Eleanor was almost six pounds and had lovely dark hair. She was perfect.
Honouring her memory
I have spent a lot of time thinking of ways in which to keep Eleanor present in our lives. Since I love to sing and have found music a helpful way to express my grief, I have decided to record an album of songs in Eleanor's memory.
Grief journey
Planning and recording the album will be an outlet for my grief and something positive to focus on as I continue to navigate life without my beautiful daughter. Creating this album will also provide me the opportunity to raise awareness around stillbirths and to assist those affected by them in my community.
BIB Charitable Trust
All profits made from album sales will be donated to a charity in Southland called the BIB Charitable Trust. BIB provide care packages to families who have experienced infant loss. These baskets are full of special mementos and treats, and provide comfort in a time of great grief.
Breakdown of costs
I have calculated that it will cost me around $4,000 to record an album of 12 songs. This amount will cover:
- The Sound Engineer fee
- Royalties
- Album cover design
- Producing the CDs
- Postage
The album
The 'Songs for Eleanor' album will be a mixture of songs that remind me of Eleanor, songs that speak to my experience of child loss, and a few of my old favourites. There will also be some special guest artists :)

Songbird snippet

Hi everyone. I am really close to meeting my pledgeme goal! Here is a short clip of me singing "Songbird" - it will be the first track on the album. This song is very special to me as it is the song I sung to Eleanor as I said goodbye to her. If you haven't pledged yet, hopefully this snippet convinces you to do so. x
