Swan Song

Project 2012-11-17 02:40:35 +1300

Last Auckland Fringe Festival, the Wet Hot Beauties presented the first water ballet in New Zealand in over fifty years. This summer, the 1930s styled ballerinas of the deep are back.

Following on from their 2011 award winning, sell-out success ‘Sirens’, the Wet Hot Beauties present ‘Swan Song’, a fantastical Swan Lake / Baz Luhrmann-inspired water ballet mash up with their trademark cheeky modern twist.

100 tutus flock to the water at the historic Parnell Baths in a romantic and epic tale of star crossed lovers, dark magic and water fowl . Eternal Love. Prince and Princesses. Dark magic. Girl fights. Water fowl. Love triangles. Love triangles with water fowl. A hilarious water dance party with rocking great moves, this is Auckland's most popular pool-side night-time spectacular.

Wet Hot Beauties are a fully inclusive, contemporary water ballet community in their fifth season. Past and present whanau sit around 250 and are a widely diverse collection of people. The majority of performers have no formal dance or performance background and join the group to channel their inner water ballerina and participate in an art form that sits outside the box.

Staging such a huge spectacular costs an epic amount of money. As our troupe grows, so too do our costs. We pride ourselves on being good time girls n guys and it's important to us that we put on an awesome and memorable extravaganza. In short, we want Swan Song to have the WOW factor.  To do this we need to spend money on the production.  We will use your kind donations on make up, costumes, props, set design, lighting and sound equipment to show case our 100 performers and the historic Parnell Baths and show them off to the best of their abilities.

Classical ballet just got all pool party on it!
