Spice Dunes. - New Zealand's Freshest Chai Mongers. - Chai Pot Theft Recovery Fund

Project 2019-10-29 20:18:34 +1300

My name is Annabelle and I run a little Chai business in Dunedin.

I make a Sticky Masala Chai Mix- an aromatic blend of semi-crushed whole spices, black tea, fresh ginger and local honey. My aim is to stock cafe's around Dunedin and NZ, and to sell Chai to home sippers through my website and local shops and markets. I want to spread the joy of high quality Chai across the land!! Once you try my Chai, you will understand ;)

In the bigger picture- I have a vision of implementing sustainable packaging practises in my business to keep our footprint as low as possible (think jar exchange systems). I also have a long term quest to funnel some of my profits into tree planting and nature restoration projects here in Aotearoa and in India and/or Sri Lanka- the home of Chai, the sources of our tea and spices and places where conservation education and implementation could do with some help. Big dreams, I know.

I recently got a small loan to purchase some specialty Chai Pots from Canada, so that I can start supplying cafe's and have my Chai served in the best possible way. The pots arrived, 30 of them and strainers to match. I brought the box home from work where I had had it posted, took it out of my van and, somewhat in a rush, left the box sitting in the car port underneath my central Dunedin apartment- planning to find a space inside to put it inside as soon as I had a moment. I have left my vintage bicycle in the same spot for months, unlocked, and nothing has ever happened to it, so it didn't really cross my mind that some one would be interested in a big cardboard box... nevertheless, two days later, the box had disappeared. Another two crates of things had been taken too, one containing sentimental items of mine and the other containing camping equipment belonging to my flatmates.. All in all, an unfortunate loss.

I have to acknowledge that it was my mistake to leave something so valuable in such an easily accessible place. But, you live and you learn....

So, moving forward, I am creating this portal to try gather some funds towards replacing the pots.

It has truly warmed me how many people have already offered help, heres hoping there's a few more of you out there who are willing to pitch in to get me get back on my feet!

Thanks for your support! It means a lot :)

Financial transparency---

Including postage and customs fees the last lot of pots cost me just over $1000 NZD. I have set my goal as $600, as these campaigns work in a way that I will only recieve money from it if the goal is reached. If I could get to $600 my gratitude will flow unbound to you all, I am happy to front the rest of the money myself, as it was my own mistake that led me here.

If I can get closer to the $1000 I will feel very blessed indeed as my business will be able to proceed as planned.

If I get more than $1000 I will donate 50% to 'Save The Otago Peninsula'- a community based environmental group that actively undertakes habitat enhancement, advocacy and education for the unique biodiversity of the Otago Peninsula. The other 50% I will use towards implementing my Jar Exchange System here in Dunedin. :)
