Collab Project with Fringe

The Wellington Fringe Festival is an open-access festival held every summer involving a wide range of shows across all artforms in venues throughout the city.

A china-smashing story of fear, tea, disasters and freedom, where theatre meets circus.

... Do you believe in disasters? In Christchurch, we do.

Creation of the Christchurch performing artists, My Beautiful Disaster is coming to the Wellington Fringe Festival for a season at the Gryphon Theatre, 14-17 February 2013. ...Or at least is very much hoping to come, and does its best to raise funds to take the team of seven (unsmashable) people, many (smashable) props, costumes and set to the New Zealand Fringe - hence our presence on PledgeMe!

OUR STORY

Based of the short story by Tove Jansson "The Fillyjonk Who Believed in Disasters", our show strongly relates to the earthquake experiences of Christchurch residents. At times funny, at times frightening, it combines comedy, drama and physical theatre to tell the story of imaginary and real disasters, emotional liberation and re-birth.

... Lonely Fillyjonk lives in a big house by the sea. Surrounded by her lovely tea cups and other knick-knacks, she is deeply afraid of the unknown disaster that creeps closer with every tick of the clock…

OUR TEAM

The show combines the efforts of the Christchurch performing artists and features:
Nataliya Oryshchuk (Fillyjonk, producer, script-writer)
Stephanie Cusick (Gaffsie)
Circus performers and dancers (Creepy-Crawlies, creatures of fear and foreboding)...
... and a range of Smashed China.
Original music and soundscape is created by the Christchurch musician and composer Charlotte Crone.

We believe in disasters. But we also believe in people. With your help, we can overcome the difficulties and bring the show to Wellington, to perform and share our story at the wonderful Gryphon theatre!
