Who am I?

Hi! My name is Janine Boon and I'm an artist based in the Wairarapa. I'm 40 years old and apart from designing this colouring book I draw, paint, spin, dye yarn, knit, sew and generally just can't stop creating.  I have a day job, working with people and numbers, so as soon as I get home I pick up my latest project and go for it.

Okay, cool, but what's this all about?

A few months ago, I started doodling a few pictures and posted them to my social media channels and was really surprised by the feedback I got. It seemed I'd hit on a cheerful fun style that was perfect for a colouring book and the more I thought about it, the more I thought it was a great idea! So here we are.

Flamingo Mouse Planet Seahorse

Awesome! How can I help?

Thank you for asking! Basically, I really want to see this succeed, and the quickest and easiest way to do that is to self-publish.  By pledging to my project, not only will you help me realise this dream, you'll also get a fun project that you can colour any way you like.

So what is in it for me?

My undying thanks? A warm fuzzy feeling? The knowledge that you've made my dream come true?

Oh! You can also get a first edition copy of my book! If you want me to I'll even write a dedication of your choice and sign the inside cover (or leave it completely unblemished if you would prefer)!

I have several ways you can help me, check out the pledges to the right. The following rewards are available:

  • $5 Encouragement and my thanks! (Unlimited)
  • $15 for a Digital download of a page from the book (Limited to 50)
  • $25 for one copy of the book (add $20 for each additional book sent to the same address - up to 5 books total e.g. 2 books = $45, 3 books = $65, 4 books = $85, 5 books = $105) (Unlimited)
  • $50 a copy of the book for you and a copy for Women's Refuge (Unlimited)
  • $55 a copy of the book and an A3 poster for you to cover (Limited to 50)
  • $100 a copy of the book AND an original A5 customised drawing of your pet (or favourite animal) (Limited to 10)
  • $250 you get 2 copies of the book for you, 1 copy for the Women's Refuge, 3 digital downloads, 1 A3 poster AND the original A5 drawing of one of the pages of the book!! (Limited to 30)

The Details

Okay, the nitty-gritty, what's this book going to look like?

  • A4 size landscape book
  • 30 image pages of original art to colour
  • Single-sided to avoid bleed through to other images
  • High quality paper stock
  • Spiral bound so you can lay the pages flat when you colour

Timeline

The campaign finishes on 1 October. I have the printer all lined up and print time is around a month. Once printed I will be envelope stuffing and would hope to get all physical rewards out and to you before Christmas! Digital Rewards should be with you by the third week of November.

The Budget

I've been out to several publishers for quotes. I want to keep the printing in New Zealand, preferably in the Greater Wellington Region and have a secured a Wellington based printer to help me out. I want high quality paper stock to ensure you have the best colouring experience, but I don't want to price myself completely out of the market. Costs involved include:

  • Printing (approx. $1,000 for up to 250 units)
  • Postage and packaging of rewards (approx. $1,000 for 100 units)
  • Promotion ($250)
  • PledgeMe Fees (6.5%)

The more copies I get printed, the cheaper per colouring book. Therefore, the minimum goal covers printing and postage, but doesn't make profit. If I can sell 150 units or more I will be able to pay myself for my time and design skills as well as fulfilling all of the rewards.

Stretch Goals

If I hit my minimum target, I'll be looking at stretch goals. Ideas include sticker sheets, postcards that can be coloured in and sent and, if everything goes really well, enamel pins. I will be happy to upgrade pledges to include these stretch items if we get to that stage of the campaign!

Frequently Asked Questions:

I've had a questions regarding donating one copy of the book to Women's Refuge.

I'm happy to do this - If you chose the $25 reward and let me know when I'm collecting addresses for sending that you would like to pass your copy onto the Women's Refuge (or send as a gift or to another charity) I am more than happy to do this!

Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'll update this page as we go!

I’m so confident we’ll meet our target that I’m in the process of digitising my hand drawn artwork.

I’m new to all this, so basically it entails me scanning my hand drawn pieces, and redrawing them in Clip Studio Paint. I use my Surface Pro 6 with Surface pen and it gives me the opportunity to do a few tweaks here and there!

So excited and thankful to you all! This time next week the files should be at the printers!

We're halfway there my lovely supporters! I'll be working on a few more details for the colouring book this weekend - including looking into any other merchandise for after the book is printed. There are so many cute characters in these pages that are begging to become stickers, pins, t-shirts or even soft toys.

I'll post some sneak peaks fo you along the way.

And in case you haven't found it yet, you can also keep up-to-date on my jinderella facebook page!

Truly humbled by the support! Thank you to everyone who has pledged so far, and thank you to everyone who has shared this campaign with their friends and family.

I’m working on the artwork for the cover at the moment. It’s a little more complicated because I want it to work as a page in the book without the lettering as well as the cover. And it’s the one part of the book you’ll see coloured in by me!

I’ll share some snippets as I go!
