Awesome Fund For One: Unique Minds

Project 2019-08-12 15:33:01 +1200

Who are we?

We are One: Unique Minds, a Social Enterprise that operates in the Bay of Plenty providing mentoring, social groups, academic and advocacy services. We also speak at schools, events and businesses to help educate professionals on Neurodiversity.

We are different because we come from lived experience, all of our mentors are people with ASD or other Neurodiversities. We use a strength-focused approach, looking to the aspirations of youth, rather than their "disability."  We move at the pace of the Individual rather than a cookie-cut set of goals and achievements.

Our mission is to be the warrior, the scholar, the entrepreneur, and the pioneer of human possibility. To engage, empower, and inspire every human being we meet to see their own greatness and unleash their inner light to brighten the lives of themselves, their family, and their community.

Our vision is to see that all the young people in this country (and any other country we can get our hands on) are given the support, understanding, and encouragement to reach their potential as awesome and capable people.

Our Team:

Jason- The Founder

Moniker: Great Beard = Great Responsibility

We have so far been operating for four years as a business and have helped over 100 Kiwi youth to better themselves and overcome challenges, we have brightened the lives of many who would otherwise have become suicide statistics. Our goal is to always be there for anyone who is not receiving the help they need.

We have taken referrals from the Mental Health Team, MICAMHS, Local and National Psychologists, Schools, Advocacy and Information Charities, and other Organizations providing services to kids, teens and adults in NZ. We have worked with young people through the Ministries of Education, Justice, and Oranga Tamariki.

Our goal is to transition to a charitable trust by 2020 in order to apply for funds that will make all our services available regardless of financial constraints. This status will allow us to continue our work as a social organization, while having the flexibility to provide additional support to those who need it the most.

Our costs for making this transition are as follows;

Legal fees: $1000-$3000

Wages: $21,288

Overhead: $2,400

Accounting: $480

For a lovely total of $25,168-$27,168

We currently run;

3 Dungeons and Dragons Groups

1 Minecraft Club

1 Martial Arts Class

As well as providing individual mentoring to a large range of clients and consulting on important issues that will impact the Neurodiverse world of the future.

Where will your donation go?

$1000-$2000 - This will cover our legal fees and allow us to pay for the transition into a charitable trust; thus allowing us to apply for funding grants.

$3000-5000 - The above plus we will be able to cover the accounting and Charities commision fees for moving over into a charitable trust, Jason will be less stressed.

$5000-10,000 - We will be able to do the above, plus cover our overhead costs for The Kollective and ensure that we can dedicate a few hours of our time per week to the change over (rather than doing it when we are supposed to be sleeping). Jason will feel occasional moments of calm between the admin induced hysteria.

$10,000-$20,000 - Jason will actually be able to get some sleep and take the time to enjoy a cup of tea in the morning... Oh and all of the above with also being able to hire back our AMAZING administrator Sophie to ensure our admin side gets smooth and beautiful.

$20,000+ - We will be able to get everything sorted on our end, everything above plus we will be able to start offering some of our services free/discounted for those most in need and actually get things out to the Charities commision on time... Jason will find out what it feels like to not be constantly having a panic attack.

-

$1,000,000+ - Dreams are free aren't they? Wonderful, wonderful dreams... Let’s see... Our services would be free... We could run additional training programs for mentors and set up more support and supervision. We could hire more Neurodiverse mentors to make a difference in their communities. Kat and Jason would take a tour around NZ speaking at schools and events about Neurodiversity, Dungeons and Dragons, and the way we are saving lives. The myth that vaccines cause autism would finally be accepted as nonsense, and peace and goodwill would spread to all the four corners of the earth. Kat would live in a mansion with 50 cats and give them all the snuggles.
