Salvation- A Short Film

Project 2019-07-17 18:47:42 +1200

Our film Salvation is a film that has been worked on for the past 5 months and is now heading towards production for our final university Screen Production assignment. The film Salvation is a narrative that follows the story of a young New Zealander who must face the religious and social struggles of coming out as a transgender male after being forced to leave the Church he was raised in. Our film is a narrative which is based on a true story; It will include dramatic recreations of events and voice-over of the main character’s recount of what happened. The film covers topics relevant to LGBTQ+ and Religion. It also hits on the themes of loneliness and acceptance.

Roman and I (Alyse) are third-year AUT students majoring in TV Screen Production. We are hoping our film will be able to be entered into film competitions after it’s completion as our final university assignment.

Roman is the writer and director of this film. Roman decided to create this film as he is close friends with the person the story is based on, and he is passionate about filmmaking. Roman is also a transgender male and believes transgender representation in all forms of media is important. The story shows the reality of the treatment some transgender people face even in modern societies. As someone who has faced transphobia in his life, Roman feels that education about the transgender experience is key to helping people to understand and be more accepting of LGBTQ+ people. This is a topic and a story both Roman and Alyse are passionate about, and they feel it is an important story to tell. Alyse decided to come on as producer believing this film covers an important topic that is relevant in today's society and still not fully understood. Like Roman, Alyse feels education about the experience is key to helping people become more accepting and understanding of the LGBTQ+ community. The education, in turn, will also help those experiencing the situation for themselves feel as though they are more likely to have a solid support system around them. Although the film is centered around a transgender character the themes of isolation and feeling out of place are big elements of the story that many can relate to regardless of how they relate to the LGBTQ+ elements our film is centered around.

We believe we are the right people to deliver this film as Roman has a personal connection to the subject matter and the story and Alyse has the creative and organized mindset that will help bring this film to life. Together we can create a finished product that will be both cinematically beautiful as well as truthful, touching and educational.

We intend to use the funds raised to cover location hire, catering and transport for cast and crew, costume and prop hire and post-production costs. Although our goal is $950 we would love to raise over $1000 so we can pay our actors to thank them for all their hard work and dedication they put towards our project. Any extra funds raised will go towards bettering post-production and paying actors and volunteers who helped with our film. Any donation towards our film would be greatly appreciated. For those who donate $50 or more, you will be thanked in the credits for your generosity.

A successful campaign for us will mean the beginning to what could be a very exciting future in the film and screen industry for both Roman and Alyse. Not only will the success of the campaign help us and our future but will help the film be at the highest caliber possible for a student short film and be competition worthy. Roman and Alyse hope to enter this film into competitions so awareness can be spread and shared worldwide as well as in New Zealand.

Day 2 is complete

29/08/2019 at 10:31 PM

Day 2 of filming is complete and so is our time at our beautiful church location. Tomorrow brings the last day of filming which also means the last day with our wonderful cast and crew. We have honestly been so lucky with how incredibly well our whole team has worked together and how the cast and crew all click so well. Will definitely be a slightly sad goodbye wrapping tomorrow.

we are currently working extremely hard sorting everything we need for the shoot days which are coming up super fast. Today we had a little production meeting to make sure everyone is on the same page and could sort out what we still need to do as well as collaborate final ideas and help out the incredibly stressed director and producer.

You need to pledge to see this update.

Also if you're interested in being apart of our project and live in Auckland we have an awesome opportunity for you to be an extra in our film. Just send us an email at [email protected] and I'll get in contact with you about further details.
