Introducing:
The Support Women's Sport Basin Reserve
This project was coined to increase support for New Zealand's female athletes. To champion greater media coverage and tackle the clear inequalities in the visibility and value of all women’s sport in New Zealand.

But is the gender bias in sports reporting real?!
To put simply, yes. Here are just a handful of articles that validate our argument:

https://www.wisden.com/
But why rename the Basin Reserve?
If we’re serious about drawing attention to women’s sport then let’s do it on a scale never seen before. Let’s take our oldest and most famous cricket ground and call it the 'Support Women’s Sport Basin Reserve’. By renaming this historic location we’ll be making a statement to the world.
It took an earthquake to create the basin reserve. Let’s keep shaking things up!
And why support us?
Our mission is simple: we want women’s sport to be more valued. That means by players and coaches as well as reporters, editors and academics.
We want to challenge the ignorantly biased and sometimes, blatantly sexist culture that persists in New Zealand sports.
We want better stories to be published about women’s sport.
We want more women in senior leadership positions.
We want to support journalists who give prime real estate to women’s sports coverage.
And most importantly, we want to provide young girls with positive role models they can aspire to, because if they can see her, they can be her.
Here's where you come in:
In order to secure naming rights of the Basin Reserve, there are a few targets that we must hit.
- If we reach our target of $50k, we will secure naming rights to the Basin Reserve for 1 year.
- If we reach our target of $100k, we will secure naming rights to the Basin Reserve for 2 years.
- If we reach our target of $150k, we will secure naming rights to the Basin Reserve for 3 years.
Thank you so much for your support!
