The Day The Wall Broke - Edgecumbe Flood Book

Project 2019-03-14 14:33:10 +1300

The Edgecumbe Flood of 2017 displaced an entire town in a single morning. Two years later, the town is still rebuilding.

This is our story.

The Day The Wall Broke collects interviews and photographs from the event and clean-up to create a complete record of what happened. There are stories of anger, hope, hurt, loss and love.

Our book celebrates the way that New Zealand rallied to offer support and resources, and how strangers became rescuers and friends. The book is currently being compiled by a team of writers and then will be published.

You can get your copy here on PledgeMe, with discounts for more than one copy. We'd also love to accept your financial support towards the project and we will thank you on our Facebook page.

The flood book is a commemoration of the resilience of the Edgecumbe community, a keepsake of our experiences. This is our story.

Thank you for supporting the Edgecumbe community.

Book update: Due NEXT week.

06/05/2019 at 10:25 AM

To our wonderfully PATIENT whanau ... the printers have just been in touch and the books wont be here until NEXT week :-( we are so frustrated but they say good things come to those who wait, right?!

(Yeah, doesn't really make me feel better either!)

This is what the printer has said:
"To give you an idea, the inside pages will take 2 solid days to print, then the covers will need to be printed (tomorrow at the earliest if we get sign off today) on our offset printer - after that, they will need a day to dry before laminating. Laminating will take half a day. The binding will take a full day and then we need to wait 24 hours after that to dry before trimming. Finally, we hold our breath and hope the courier delivers over night!"
Who knew that printing books took so long!!!!!

To ease the pain, I'll load up a sneak preview each day this week on our Facebook page ;-) a little teaser to get us excited as we countdown...

We're really sorry about the delay ... thank you for your patience xxx

Thank you, pledgers!

A massive thank you to everyone who has supported our project and preordered the book!

Preorders closed over the weekend and we have sold nearly 80% of the books we have ordered, which is fabulous! The remaining books will be available for cash purchases in two locations - Radio 1xx and Peppers Building Supplies - when they get here, for those who arent online. We'll update our Facebook page when this happens.

WHEN DO YOU GET YOUR BOOK?

The last update we had from the printer was that the books are due here this coming weekend - early May. So that means we should be getting them all posted out next week, we're thinking about the 10th - 15th May.

With lots of streets, names, addresses, multiple copies etc, it will take us a few days to get sorted - remember we're just 3 volunteers - so your patience is really appreciated :-)

If your payment hasnt come out for the books, please check you have enough credit on your card, or that you make the payment.

Thank you again for your support, we really hope you all love the book
