Sunsonics Solar Tour

Project 2018-11-25 15:15:35 +1300

Demonstrating that renewable solar energy can meet the needs of many businesses and events, Sunsonics are embarking on a Solar Powered Sound System Tour in stunning off-grid locations to showcase how the power of the sun can create audible beauty using a solar powered hi-fidelity sound system.
No stinky diesel, no generator noise, pure-sine wave inverter creating pure power and crystal clear sound, running up to 10,000W of hi-fidelity audio.
1. An event on New Zealand’s most popular beach! Mount Maunganui Main beach: Thursday 24th January, 2-4pm.
This gig on the beach has been cancelled due to factors outside of our control.

A solar powered event on NZ’s most popular beach, dancing barefoot on the sand to the live sounds from legends Tiki Taane and Laughton Kora. Then support our local environment with a Sustainable Coastlines clean up on Mount Maunganui beach with the sweet sounds from the Mount resident DJ. This gig on the beach has been cancelled due to factors outside of our control.
2. An event in the desert. Desert Road, Saturday 26th January 2019.

A solar powered gig alongside the Desert road, nothing but huge landscapes and massive skies. Join us as Ed Zuccullo (Trinity Roots, Flight, Zuke) brings tiers of keyboards and weaves his magic on the solar rig sending original music out into the landscape.
3. An event in the forest. Dickey Flat, Waikino, Mount Karangahake, Saturday 2nd February, 1-3pm.

A solar powered gig nestled against mature native forest and a beautiful crystal clear swimming hole just metres away. Listen to live acts and top DJ’s bringing sweet beats and support Protect Karangahake Pest Free as they put their effort into pest eradication on Mount Karangahake.
All off-grid and powered by the sun!
These three gigs on the beach, the desert road and the forest are all free entry to the public. All are welcome to enjoy the sweet sounds and amazing vibe that will be created when music is powered by, and surrounded by nature.

It's an afternoon family friendly picnic from 2-4pm beside a beautiful swimming hole and surrounded by Totara's. Listen to singer/songwriters Huia and Jason Hamon followed by sublime tunes from The Dastardly Bounder
This Saturday 2nd Feb, 2-4pm, Dickey Flat, Waikino.

Thank you Pledgers - we made it!!!

23/01/2019 at 12:10 PM

Thank you so much! We made it!

I feel humbled and excited - so I'm putting my energy into delivering the gigs.

Pledgeme are currently processing all the pledges, so you may receive an email informing you that your pledge was successful. I really appreciate all your support.

Asking for help to put on these shows is one of the most uncomfortable things I've done. Out of the many events and gigs I've put on over the years, using traditional methods - ticketing etc seemed OK, but putting yourself on the line this way asking for pledges up front has been mentally challenging.
So thank you all for supporting me in this and I sincerely hope that many of you can get to one or more of the shows.

Rewards will be provided over the next month. Sticker printing is underway very soon. I'll be contacting you all separately to get details on where the rewards are to be sent to, or how they are delivered, depending on what you chose.

Remember the Beach gig had to be unfortunately cancelled due to factors out of our control, and subsequently the pledgeme target was reduced.

The next events of the Sunsonics Solar Tour are:

1. Desert Road with live show from Ed Zuccollo (Trinity Roots, Flite, Zuke), and DJ's AlleyKat and Matt Rapid

Huge landscapes, massive skies and tiers of keyboards - this will be an epic one-of-a-kind set by Ed Zuccollo.
This weekend!!!
2:00 - 4:00pm. Saturday 26th January, Tukino Access Road turnoff, Desert Road, SH1, Ruapehu
Car pool if you can. Spaces available from Tauranga and Waihi.

Here is the location:

2. In The Forest with 'World Famous DJ's' in NZ, with The Dastardly Bounder and AlleyKat, plus a singer/songwriter playing in the forest.
This will be a lovely family picnic surrounded by Totara's and a beautiful swimming hole. We will be supporting a worthy cause in 'Pest Free Karangahake' with this gig.

2:00 - 4:00pm, Saturday 2nd February, Dickey Flat, Waikino, Waihi.
More details on this gig soon.
Here's a lovely pic of the site :)

Thanks so much once again.

Hope to see you at the shows!

Stepping into the challenges

11/01/2019 at 9:18 AM

Firstly I want to thank the 30 people that have Pledged so far! Thanks for backing me on this one – it’s a big task and a big ask – but it’s so worth it. It’s hard to ask people for money and I’m totally out of my comfort zone…so I just want to say thank you so much for the support so far!

Life is constantly throwing challenges at us and this one has hit hard. Unfortunately due to factors out of our control, we’ve lost the location of the Mount Mauganui beach gig with Tiki Taane and Laughton Kora, and have had to cancel that performance.

While we were given consent from Tauranga City Council for the event on the beach, we have just been denied access to the beach by the Mount Maunganui Surf Club (due to the on-going construction of the Surf Club building now blocking the beach accessway). There is no other way in.

My dream was for the stage and punters to be on the sand, in a place that was obviously off-grid and in an amazing location, up close with the Artists and Solar rig. Unfortunately, without the access, that is no longer possible.

I’m gutted to have to provide this news, as it really was my dream gig to do.

We will still be proceeding with the Sunsonics Solar Tour and the performance on the Desert Road on Sat 26th January with Ed Zuccullo, and in the Forest at Dickey Flat on Sat 2ndFebruary – just because we can!

While we have lost a live performance on the beach – we will add a live performance to the Forest event – I’ll update the new artist soon!

Thanks so much for everyone’s support, pledges and understanding – solar power rules and there will be more opportunities to demonstrate that solar holds the future to power events in NZ….we have a new target to reflect the two events now on offer, and just 10 days left to nail this – keep those pledges rolling in - we can do this . Arohanui, Al

p.s: based on the change to the gigs - if any pledger wishes to withdraw their pledge they can do so by emailing  [email protected]
