Placemaking Library - Aotearoa
Project 2018-10-30 14:45:31 +1300
The empowerment of individuals is an essential element in growing healthy & sustainable communities!
Donations will be used to buy educational books on placemaking to be shared and traded amongst placemakers across Aotearoa - The goal is to empower and equip community initiatives / placemakers.
Improved placemakers = improved Quality of life!
Problem: After trying to access books on placemaking at Auckland Library I found that most placemaking books are inaccessible and held in 'The Auckland Council Corporate Library'. As this collection is only available to council members an access issue is created for grassroots and community-lead placemakers seeking quality free information. To ensure ground-up placemaking efforts are as informed as top-down placemaking efforts information should be free and accessible.
The Solution: Lets create The Placemaking Library. A open-source sharing platform where helpful placemaking books are traded between the members and useful online ebooks and articles are stored.
With your help:
-
Placemaking books will be purchased
-
A website will be created to display the collection & ebooks are stored
-
A shared spreadsheet will be created to record location of books and borrower details
With your help I first plan to purchase the books below, although if you have specific placemaking books you want please suggest. This is a open-source model. Book Donations are also appreciated!
BOOKS:
1) Deconstructing placemaking : needs, opportunities, and assets / Mahyar Arefi
2) The art of placemaking : interpreting community through public art and urban design / Ronald Lee Fleming
3) Great neighborhood book : a do-it-yourself guide to placemaking / Jay Walljasper
4) Transcultural cities : border crossing and placemaking / Jeffrey Hou
5) The permaculture city : regenerative design for urban, suburban, and town resilience / Toby Hemenway
6) Suburban remix : creating the next generation of urban places / by Jason Beske and David Dixon
7) Now urbanism : the future city is here / edited by Jeff Hou, Benjamin Spencer, Thaisa Way and Ken Yocom
8) Place attachment : advances in theory, methods and applications / by Lynne C. Manzo and Patrick Devine-Wright
9) Planning and place in the city : mapping place identity / Marichela Sepe
10) The placemaker's guide to building community/ Nabeel Hamdi
11) New urbanism : best practices guide / Robert Steuteville, Philip Langdon and special contributors
12) Within walking distance : creating livable communities for all / Philip Langdon
