Hi, we're The Polly Johnson Set! We're a five piece acoustic band from Wellington who have been performing live together for the past five years. We each write original songs which then get the full-band-treatment, transforming from rough edged bundles of potential into fully polished musical gems. We're really proud of the group of songs that we've crafted over this time and have thoroughly road tested them with our loyal and enthusiastic local following. As we continue to create, we've realised the time is right to record our existing repertoire and - honestly - we couldn't be more excited about sharing them with you.

Musically speaking, you might be hard pressed to describe us. We struggle ourselves! Five different voices in the band mean that we're pretty diverse, lyrically and musically, but we firmly believe that's the source of the magic that we seem to create whenever we play together. With guitar, bass, ukulele, cello, banjo, mandolin and even a real fancy shaker in the mix we traverse a range of styles, managing to use each to convey true emotion and excitement. And oh man it is fun.

We'll be recording in Novemeber at The Surgery studio in Newtown, Wellington and plan to have the album ready to release in February 2019. We'll be working with Lee Prebble, an amazing recording engineer and producer who has worked with artists such as The Phoenix Foundation, Fly My Pretties and Dave Dobbyn. The album will then be mastered (that's the mysterious magical bit that puts the final shine on the tracks) by Mike Gibson at Munki Studios. We're really confident that these are the right guys to help make our music the absolute best it can be and deliver you an album you deserve.

We are 100% committed to this project, but we need your help. Making a great album costs money and right now we don't have enough. We're asking for your help so that we can cover some of the costs of recording, mixing, mastering and CD production. Here's the breakdown:

  • Recording studio and engineer - $3800
  • Mastering - $1800
  • CD production - $1500

We're aiming to raise $6000 through Pledge Me, and will cover all costs beyond this ourselves. This includes all the additional expenses beyond the actual recording of the album such as design and promotion.

As you may have guessed, we are so amped about making this album. It really is the right time. And what's even more exciting is the chance to share it all with you, from right now through to finished product.

Your support would mean the world to us.
