About

The Goblin's Fault

Project 2012-10-17 00:18:29 +1300

The Concept…

Children (and some adults) find it easier to understand or come to terms with trauma through fantasy. Through the art of telling stories people have coped with tragic occurrences throughout history

Frightening events will ever be part of our human experience. The spate of earthquakes in Canterbury over the last two years has shaken the foundations of so many worlds, including mine. February 22 2011 – the day of one of New Zealand’s worst moments in history. My four children were in the city. The epicentre of devastation. No words can describe how we felt that day. We fled the city and began a healing journey through words.

With the help and advice from my kids I wrote The Goblin’s Fault and we hope to share this story with those who’ve lived through tragedy. Endorsed by some of New Zealand’s leading child psychologists and the countries most innovative educators, The Goblin’s Fault is a story of survival, healing and goblins.

The Story...

The Goblin’s Fault begins with a roaring, a rumbling, a cacophonic grumbling. The Elves of the forest are shaken and scared until a visiting wizard assures them he knows the cause of their plight. Goblins - a greedy race set on the mass construction and destruction of the underground must be stopped for peace to reign in the forest.

The book takes readers on a fantastical journey into a realm modelled on Tolkien's AND Peter Jackson's ‘Middle Earth’ and delivers messages of community solidarity, inner strength and environmental responsibility.

Adults reading the story are able to discuss with children the facts which are included in the back of the book as well as the endorsement and therapeutic advice from leading child psychologists.

The Writer...

I have been writing for many years. I am a published magazine feature and Head Writer and have also conducted Creative Writing Courses through Discovery 1 School throughout 2010. I have completed my first novel for Young Adults with strong moral themes and self-discovery messages and I delight in writing picture books and poetry for my own children. An ex-Children’s Bookshop Children’s Literature Specialist I have adored and read multitudes of children’s picture books and know what makes a classic. The vital ingredients are all here in ‘The Goblin’s Fault’ and I am proud to have written a book that will give joy, hope and help to others. www.carlamunro.com

The Budget…

To illustrate, publish, distribute and create an interactive digital publication aimed at children and adults with reading difficulties and/or different strategies for learning, for example Dyslexia, we will need a minimum of $10,000. This budget includes illustration, design, printing through a reputable company in Southland and the conversion to digital by another innovative and forward-thinking New Zealand company leading the way in digital publishing. Anything above this budget will be provided by myself as the project director. We hope to create many more gorgeous books in both stunning print and interactively fantastic digital to open the world of story to a broader audience and take New Zealand artists and writers and digital artisans to the global market. The Goblin’s Fault will lead the way.
