Movies For The Community - A Plastic Ocean

Project 2018-02-15 15:48:47 +1300

Through travelling around a variety of places, I have seen the destruction that plastic is causing to our planet, and more specifically, marine life. Humans have been devastating the oceans more heavily than ever over the last 50 years, and with more of a global focus on plastic waste now, I want to use this momentum to encourage people to work together to create ways of reducing our plastic. We have an incredible resource today - the screen! Showing people the destruction caused is one of the strongest ways of conveying messages, and I would like to use the documentary 'A Plastic Ocean' to do this.

There will be 2 free screenings in Christchurch, which will provide a platform for idea sharing to create plans of action. The first will be on Friday 16th March at the Exchange, and will likely be more directed at those who want to be more engaged in the movement, and helping some of those already making headway in Christchurch. I would also like to invite local business owners. The second will be based in a community hall, and aimed at getting people from the community surrounding that area engaged.

From this, I hope, would stem an active community within Christchurch looking at our waste and what we can do both individually as consumers, and together as a focused group. This is an incredibly important issue that needs to be brought to people's attention, and I believe bringing people together in a supportive environment is more likely to achieve the outcome. The funding will cover the cost of the screening licence for 2 screenings, and the hiring cost of one venue (the first venue has kindly been offered free). Please see Facebook event below, will have further details of screenings.
