Help me trace my roots through song

My name is Priya Sami. I am a musician of Irish and Fijian/Indian descent, based in Tāmaki Makaurau. I write and perform songs as Trip Pony and The Sami Sisters.

In early April 2018 I've got the opportunity to travel to New Delhi in India to learn traditional carnatic singing techniques at the Global Academy of Arts, Languages and Culture. On my return I'm planning on releasing an album inspired by my time there.

This is a once-in-lifetime chance for me to reconnect with my roots through music and I need your help to get me there.

I've never been to India before so in many ways this trip is a pilgramage to a 'home' that I've felt in my bones but have never experienced in the flesh. I hope to learn more about my ancestry while also sharing my unique experience as a New Zealander of Irish and Indian descent.

My aim is to bring the music of my ancestral homeland back to New Zealand and to create a concept album that encompasses this richness of culture and identity so that I can inspire other young New Zealanders of Indian descent - actually for everyone to search and discover their whakapapa and where they came from.

Your donation will help pay for tuition, flights and other costs required to attend the Global Academy of Arts, Languages and Culture in India, this April 2018.

Budget:
Flights - $1964
Lessons at Global Academy of Arts, Languages & Culture - $1422
Travel within India - $300
Accomodation - $500
Food - $200
Travel Insurance - $180

Please donate today to help me make the most of this incredible opportunity to bring the music of my ancestral home back to New Zealand.

Kia-ora, Dhanyavaad, Vinaka and Thank-you!
