About Make this boat float

The Lifeboat NZ found its birth by Richard Mons, the founder. He is a Dutchman, who came to New Zealand 25 years ago and lives in Greymouth. With his experience being a single dad, raising 2 children on his own, and later became involved in an abusive relationship, he has gone through very difficult times in his life. He had lost everything, had no job, no money, a free fall in life.
Previously he had restored a 1908 original lifeboat of Greymouth that ended up by his friend. After the free fall the lifeboat was given back to him. With the boat as the only possession he owned, the idea was born to turn the boat into his lifesaver. With the help of friends and Kiwi ingenuity The Lifeboat NZ was launched in September 2016.
What is a lifeboat?
A lifeboat is constructed for free fall launching, designed to rescue people from a sinking ship, to save people’s lives, a way around an excessive amount of adversity.
What is The Lifeboat NZ?
While The Lifeboat NZ is a small business selling Dutch stroopwafels and coffee, its purpose is to increase social contact and to help people who had gone through their own free fall.
More Lifeboats helping more people
Being in Greymouth, it has been proven to be a viable concept that we can now establish throughout New Zealand more Lifeboats for people who need a way back in life, so they can spread their light to others. The Lifeboat NZ in Greymouth will be a beacon for all the other people. There are so many people who ended up with the short end of the stick, who need support to believe again.
Working together with the Akina Foundation will help us to find the right locations and we invite organizations how are willing to become a part of this, to give the possibility of The Lifeboat NZ to grow and reach as many people as possible throughout New Zealand.
With the $ 7000 we are able to inport another lifeboat, convert it into the same boat that is operating now and set somebody up with their own business. Those boats together will provide enough money to set up more lifeboats and to give more people the opportunity to make a new start in life. We don't need the money for the existing lifeboat. So every dollar will be spend to help another in need to have hope and to find their way back into life.
You can make a difference!! It will be fantastic if you will help The Lifeboat NZ grow and make this boat float!
Please take a look at The Lifeboat NZ being number 1 in Greymouth on Tripadvisor.

We thank you so much!
Cheers, Richard and Monique.
