About

Malcolm Gordon's New Album

Project 2017-10-27 20:16:40 +1300

This album has been an act of recovery. By the end of 2016 I found that, somewhere along the way, I had lost the joy of making music. Over summer I set out to see if I could get it back. Turns out I could, by letting the songs come to me, rather than going out to chase them. By letting stories take hold of my imagination until they folded into melodies. By letting moments impress me to the point I wanted to savour them forever, so I set them to music to make it easier to take them with me. That’s what these songs are, a soundtrack of recovering something precious, something lost, something that I wasn’t sure could be found again.

But in the end the songs found me. Then I found an ally in Matt Caradus to transform them from fragments of colour into full-blown landscapes of musical adventuring. Along the way I picked up Andrew Harray, Greg Stanley, Chris Geddes, Jono Ryan and Hannah Gibson, who all lent their genius to make these songs come alive. These songs that had helped me come back to myself.

Now they’re recorded, I just need a little help to set them loose on the world. That's the work of designing the album artwork and producing the CDs. These are songs with stories that matter, written as folk ballads and reels that will make you want to laugh, dance and weep. These songs helped me come alive, to come back to myself. I hope they can do something similar for you. Can you help?
