UNNATURAL HISTORY is a story of disappearances and forbidden knowledge, centred around the Rangipo Desert - where in 1979 a series of bizarre ‘energy field’ experiments were conducted by Theo Velasquez, American-born author and amateur physicist.
This is my first short film as writer, director and co-producer (alongside Melissa Dodds, co-producer of "Existence", NZ International Film Festival 2012).
In September we were lucky enough to receive a Fresh Shorts grant of $10,000 from the NZFC to enable the film to be made. We are now looking for additional funds to supplement the film's considerable art department and FX needs. This is a complex story with multiple time periods, some remote locations and various shooting formats, from RED to 16mm to Hi-8 video.
Many people have shown enthusiasm for this project in the past weeks and asked what they can do to help. This PledgeMe campaign is the chance for anyone with an interest in seeing this unusual film to help us make it happen, and to the highest possible quality.
