UPDATE - we're gonna need a bigger bus!
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. We've reached our first goal!
Now: our first stretch goal is $2,500. This would significantly increase the number of people from all over Aotearoa we could bring to Wellington to shut down the Weapons Expo - after all, what is a blockade without any people in it? And there are still plenty of fab rewards on offer.
So please keep sharing and donate if you haven't already. Also check out this awesome video of the last blockade in Tāmaki Makaurau, when we managed to keep hundreds of arms dealers out. Help us do it again.
-----------------------------------------------------
On October 10 &11, activists from all over Aotearoa will converge at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington to shut down the annual Weapons Expo. The Expo is a trade show for arms companies and the military to buy, sell and lobby for more weapons of war. The primary sponsor of the Expo is Lockheed Martin, the world's largest arms company. They manufacture nuclear weapons, warships, tanks, fighter jets, bombs, guided missiles and just about any other kind of weapon.
We are raising funds to transport activists from Auckland (and other places along the way) for the blockade and for campaign & action supplies. We are hoping to bring a big crew of people to be a part of the action again this year, and we need your help!
Last year, the Weapons Expo was in Auckland. People from across the city joined in action to blockade the arms trade – and we did that successfully, shutting out 350 delegates for 8 hours. We used non-violent direct action to stop war profiteers for a day. We had a host of other amazing activities as part of the Week of Peace.
We also extend an invitation to anyone who is interested in the campaign and keen to be part of the action to join us on the trip to Wellington. If you're planning to come to the blockade and want more details about transport or just about the day, please register on www.stopthearmstrade.nz/register
You can see pictures of the T-shirts, Tea Towels and Zine collection on the updates page.
