About

Aspiring Leaders' Forum 2017

Project 2017-07-13 15:33:09 +1200

I have always valued and looked up to leaders who inspired and encouraged those around them. They bring people together and harness their strengths whilst ensuring people learn from one another. For me, no one person has stood out as a particular example as I saw these traits in a number of teachers, friends and work colleagues who I admire to this day.

The Aspiring Leaders’ Forum is an event that brings together young leaders from all corners of New Zealand to talk about their vision and values, demonstrating that there are many ways to lead. I wish to attend this forum to meet other young leaders creating value in their communities, learn from their stories and find inspiration for projects in my own community.

I am also hoping to take the opportunity to consider what I want to do in my career and life. I would love to come back as an alumna in future years, and to be able to support someone nominated in the future to take advantage of the opportunity offered.

Aligning my beliefs to my actions, I have been involved with a number of animal welfare organisations. For the last year and a half, I have volunteered at the Wellington SPCA where I enjoy meeting new people, spending time with the animals and seeing them go to new families, while supporting an organisation that I believe in. I went to Kapiti Island last year with a Department of Conservation group to clear the tracks of weeds and collect rubbish along the shores of the island. I thoroughly enjoyed this and saw many varieties of birds in a way I hadn’t seen them before. I recently attended the Great Global Greyhound Walk in Wellington to show what rescuing a racing greyhound is like after their racing career and to promote this important cause.

I have also been involved in Wellington's fantastic startup scene. I was a designer with Creative HQ's Lightning Lab XX which is a 'business bootcamp' for startups. I gained valuable experience as well as making friends who I continue to support in their startups where I can.

This is an incredible opportunity and I would like to thank Hugh Devereux-Mack for the nomination. Every donation helps and I truly appreciate your support in helping me to attend the national Aspiring Leaders Forum 2017.
