About High Quality, Improved disease resistant 'Queen Honey Bees'
Project 2017-07-09 10:30:37 +1200
Honey bees are an endangered species due to the threat of a parasitc mite (varroa destructor). We are extremely passionate and dedicated to protecting the future of the precious honey bee and believe that by breeding queen bees who have proven abiities to resist disease, we can achieve our vision. The mite attacks and kills honey bees and their larvae resulting in the death of entire colonies. Mulitple colonies can be wiped out if the hive's are not treated regulary with chemicals.
Our primary objective is to supply bee keepers throughout New Zealand queen bees already proven to be disease resistant at an improved level with the added bonus of increased honey production. This will ensure that bee keepers from the amatuer hobbyist to the advanced keeper will have equal opportunites to purchase this particualar breed of queen at an affordable price.
High quality queens can be priced as high as $5000 for a single bee, this is simply out of reach for the average beekeeper.
We wish to greatly reduce the price and increase the population. Thank you for your support.
