About

This Way To Mars

Project 2017-07-06 12:16:56 +1200

Globally, if space enthusiasts act together, we can buy a self-sustaining, life-science station on Mars. New Zealand is the ideal place to headquarter the organisation to make it so. The Martian Trust is that organisation.

The Key: Space enthusiasts must be engaged in the effort to imagine, define, and build the life-science station if they are to provide their money. The effort must be theirs, not something they hear about or are asked to support and then leave to others.

The Way: Connect the storytelling of millions – what we already do and pay for – to the decisions that make the station happen.

The Immediate Task: Register a core membership of individuals who see the potential of The Martian Trust and whose engagement with each other demonstrates that the potential is real.

The Martian Trust is ready for it's core membership, and New Zealand space enthusiasts have the chance to be the first of that core and to help welcome the world later this year.

This Way to Mars is the New Zealand piece of a membership drive to reach 100,000 global members by April 2018. Minimum success of This Way to Mars will be reached at 100 early Kiwi members. Runaway success will be anything above 500. The membership drive is paired with this PledgeMe campaign, which offers special privileges and prizes to early New Zealand members.

The membership site is here: This Way to Mars

General information is here: The Martian Trust

Domed Settlement

The Martian Trust is an incorporated charitable trust board (NZ company number 2627931). Four temporary trustees comprise the current board and they have been assisted by a group of advisers to bring The Martian Trust to this point. Ten Founding Trustees will replace the temporary trustees by April 2018. One of these ten will be a New Zealander, nominated and elected by the early members who join during This Way to Mars. (Details on current trustees and Founding Trustees can be found in the FAQ section of the general information website and the Governance category of the blog on the This Way to Mars website.)

Life on Mars is life that might have evolved there, life that might still live there, and life we might take there. These various views of life on Mars are connected – while discovering whether Mars had and has life, we’ll discover if and how Mars can host Earth life, including humans.

All space enthusiasts are bound by a common wonder and there are enough of us to buy the self-sustaining, life-science station on Mars that we will collectively imagine through The Martian Trust.

Please take a look at This Way to Mars. We can make the future. Join us!
