Sandcastle World Record

Project 2012-10-03 18:19:07 +1300

Sunday 25th November 2012 is a date you’ll want to mark on your calendar.

That’s when Adventure Wellington will embark on its greatest challenge yet: to break the world record for the most sandcastles built in an hour. We want to make this EPIC and use it to raise much needed funds and awareness for an awesome Kiwi charity, the Neonatal Trust New Zealand. This will be a challenge like no other.

Why?
Because we want you to join us.

That’s right, we want you to come to Lyall Bay beach in Wellington, New Zealand, this November and be part of the challenge. From wherever in the world you live.

When you pledge $10 to the Neonatal Trust New Zealand, you'll get an entry to participate in the world record event plus the chance to win awesome prizes including two of the Grand Prize: a
Golden Bucket.

The Golden Bucket

Inside each golden bucket:
  • 2 x international flights to Wellington flying Air New Zealand for you or your friends or family members
  • 5 x nights of five star accommodation in Wellington (Saturday night to Wednesday night 24th - 28th November)
  • A BMW to drive during your stay in Wellington
  • 2 x tickets to take part in the Sandcastle World Record attempt, where you'll meet Sir Richard Taylor and the special guest host
  • Taken on adventures with Adventure Wellington and Boomrock
You can pledge as many times as you like – the more pledges, the greater the chance of your name being picked by Sir Richard Taylor on November 7th, 2012.

Anyone with a credit card can enter (you might want to check out the list of departure airports* that Air New Zealand can fly you from first). All funds raised will go towards the work of the Neonatal Trust New Zealand.

Why them?

Because we believe that while every single child has the right to build a sandcastle -- for so many babies born prematurely, their families can only dream of a day when their child can run down to the beach with a bucket and spade in their hands. The Neonatal Trust provides incredible support to families whose premature babies are very sick, at a time when they need it most.

The World Record

The Guinness World Record attempt will be attended by Sir Richard Taylor and friends from Weta Workshop, and a very special international guest.

The current world record of 683 sandcastles was set less than two months ago in Britain. We not only want to break this world record, we want to smash it! Each sand castle must be 2ft tall with a 2ft wide base and include four turrets; and stay standing for an extra hour. Especially for this world record attempt, Weta Workshop has designed and molded special buckets to be used during the attempt.

Who is Adventure Wellington?

Adventure Wellington is a charitable trust based in Wellington, New Zealand and one of the most active outdoor groups in the world. Our motto is, ‘we get your body moving’. With a membership doubling every six months, Adventure Wellington has been behind some of the craziest events to hit New Zealand this year. Santa Claus flash mobs, the Zombie Island run and a Pirate Treasure hunt to name a few. If it’s crazy, the chances are Adventure Wellington is behind it.

Who is Neonatal Trust New Zealand?

The Neonatal Trust New Zealand provide support to families of premature or sick full term babies as they make their journey through Neonatal Intensive Care, the transition home, and onwards. They are committed to supporting these courageous families and the people who care for them. Check out their website to find out more: http://www.neonataltrust.org.nz

We look forward to welcoming the world to Wellington in November. We’re thrilled to be supported by these Kiwi companies
