Wheels For Life

Project 2017-05-01 15:26:20 +1200

We are a group of enthusiastic year 11 students from Diocesan School for Girls who are funding to help provide Foster children in New Zealand under the age of 12 with bicycles, something many of us have taken for granted in our childhood.

Fostering Kids is a New Zealand organisation associated with helping children who are unable to live with their biological parents into families that offer support and love for the children. They also support caregivers/guardians of the foster children when needed, and families as a whole that choose to care for children that are unable to live with their biological parents.

Fostering Kids NZ also offers a range of training programs and materials to help caregivers develop resilience and gain attachment, to ensure the children feel safe and loved, as well as giving the caregivers support needed.

As a team, we aim to fundraise money to provide foster children, who have been identified by the organisation, with bikes and helmets. By supporting us, you are able to help build the funds that are needed to buy the bikes.  Each bike that we will donate to a child will be constructed together by ourselves and given in person. At the same time, we will be teaching the children how to ride their bike upon receiving it. These bikes will not only bring immense joy to the children, but also a chance to find a passion or make a fond memories of their childhood with their family. It is also provides an opportunity for the family to be included within the children’s interests and build upon the familial bond as they spend time with the children on their bikes, taking them out or perhaps riding with them.
