We, 20 girls from Diocesan who form the 11MP tutor group, want to be able to donate 3 bikes to foster families between the ages of 4-12.
Through your help on this fundraising campaign, we will be able to gift these families bikes (and helmets). We hope to bring some of the benefits that bikes bring to these families, sparking a bright future for them.
Fostering Kids NZ is an organisation which has provided a helping hand to New Zealand foster families for the past 40 years. They provide services such as courses before fostering, help overcoming the challenges which come with fostering and connecting foster families to create support networks. Fostering Kids is an important support and advice charity which has helped the estimated 10,000 NZ kids who are unable to live with their biological parents. For more information about Fostering Kids, please visit their website: (http://fosteringkids.org.nz/about-our-charity/)
Having a bike provides kids with a prime opportunity to explore the great outdoors, have some ‘me’ time all whilst gaining independence and freedom. Giving kids a chance to have time to themselves is really beneficial for their wellbeing. On a more practical note, having a bike is very useful for kids to get around, whether it’s to school or to a friend’s place, bikes are simple, yet effective way to increase a child and family’s mobility.
Bike riding is a great hobby for kids to have. It allows them to be active, spend time outside and have fun, which has multiple benefits on young people’s mental health and overall happiness. Light exercise is an excellent way to improve mental wellbeing. Various studies show that aerobic exercise (such as bike riding) may decrease the symptoms of PTSD, depression and anxiety in people. Spending time in nature is proven to be an easy way in increase people’s happiness and provide much needed relaxation.
We would love to receive your support in fundraising. We hope to reach a target of $550, which will be enough to fund 3 bikes and helmets for 3 foster kids and their families. If we are able to reach this goal, we will create a stretch target which can continue to aid the foster families.
Our crowdfunding campaign lets people donate differing amounts with various rewards, as shown on our page.
We would appreciate any donations, no matter the size.
