About

NORTH Feature Film

Project 2012-09-30 23:47:29 +1300

“North” is a micro-budget full-length feature film being produced by film students. The writer/director Ben Childs has years of experience in short film directing and recognition of his work is steadily growing in the Christchurch/Wellington film scene. “North” is a dark coming-of-age road movie about the pressures at the beginning of adulthood. Our characters dramatic journey will play out against the stunning visual backdrop on route from Queenstown to the Abel Tasman national park. This film will capture the cinematic beauty of New Zealand's South Island whilst delving deep into the heart of today's youth.

Anyone who has any knowledge of film production will know that a $6000 budget is an extremely small amount of money for a full length feature! But you know students; we beg, borrow and steal! ...And we ask for the help of lovely people (like yourself) that support innovative, motivated students and the New Zealand film industry!

To get an idea of how this film will look please watch our cinematographers showreel!

Only part of this amount is being raised through www.pledgeme.co.nz. We are raising the rest through alternate fundraising activities run by students of the Film School.

As we are all giving our time to the project free of charge the budget is to be spent on travel, accommodation and food costs alone.

Thank you for your support!

This is a message for those who are wondering what is going on, and when you can see the movie... WE ARE STILL HERE! Some of you who understand the filmmaking process will understand more readily that it takes a very long time for a full length feature to get off the ground. The decision was made to postpone shooting until early 2014 because of casting issues, but this extended time-frame has also opened many doors we could have missed and led to some very exciting developments.

Just last week a producer became attached to the project, liberating director Ben Childs to focus solely on the art and the story. Ben has recently been selected to direct one of the final graduating films for The New Zealand Film and Television school. This is a great honour and will provide invaluable experience to bring with him to the set of 'North'. While Ben is busy over the next 2 months with his short film 'Birdsong', the producer of 'North' is working behind the scenes on the schedule, budget and business plan.

Things are ticking along nicely and to everyone who has contributed and invested in the project, WE THANK YOU for your patience and your generosity.

NEW REWARD - Make Ian Eat A Sausage

17/10/2012 at 7:55 AM

We are getting so close to our $4000 target... but we don't want to stop there!

There are a number of new rewards:

But most importantly... we want to make Ian eat SO many sausages! For a limited time, every $5 donation you make add's a sausage to the pile that Ian will eat on the 25th of November. We will film this event and upload it to the updates for your viewing... pleasure?

Get on it! Make Ian suffer... it takes quite a bit of food to tickle this big fella!

Name a Character ONE-OFF REWARD!

17/10/2012 at 7:11 AM

There is a new reward that we are offering to whoever claims it first! We are going to name a character after you! Yes that's right, one of the characters in the film will be renamed to bear your title!
