Let's Get Lilly Loca To Hollywood!

Project 2017-02-18 11:29:56 +1300

Kia Ora, and welcome to my PledgeMe page.

(Well, *almost* off to Hollywood...)

My name is Lilly Loca and I wear many hats (figuratively and literally). I'm a burlesque artist, actress, director, producer, teacher and model from Auckland, New Zealand.

I am absolutely ecstatic to announce I have been selected to represent New Zealand at the 2017 Hollywood Burlesque Festival in May!

This is such a fabulous opportunity and it will be the first time I will have performed outside of Australasia. I'm even more excited as it's the first festival I've applied for outside of NZ and Australia and I got accepted! Cha-hoo!

I am the only New Zealander who is performing in the festival, which is pretty daunting! My aim is to try and represent #teamkiwi as best as possible, learning as much as I can so I can bring it back and share it with all of you. I will be doing this by performing alongside worldwide burlesque stars, taking workshops to learn more and to develop my skills as an artist, as well as network with burlesque artists from all over the world and educate them about New Zealand burlesque.

I will be performing in the Friday Night Showcase alongside some fabulous performers, including the current Queen of Burlesque 2016, Poisonne Ivory. For more information about the Hollywood Burlesque Festival, see here.

I would absolutely love and appreciate your help in getting me to the USA. You'd make this small town girl who has dreamed of the bright lights of Hollywood from a young age dreams a reality.

To cut to the chase, without some financial backing, I won't be able to attend. As fortunate as I am to perform and produce as full time as New Zealand can allow, I'm not in the financial position to be able to afford travel costs outright without risking putting a significant dent in my families much needed income, hence why I'm asking for your assistance.

However, to make it worth your while I have enlisted the help of fabulous friends who have donated prizes as rewards for your gain! Not only do you get to help a showgirl out, you get some amazing rewards too! Win, win!

A HUGE thank you to the following donors of rewards - you rock my sparkly, cuban heeled stockings:

All proceeds will go towards my travel costs, which include:

  • Pay for the cost of return flights to Los Angeles and back.
  • Travel costs while in the USA (e.g. cab fares, train, buses, etc)
  • Travel expenses (e.g. food, drink, etc)
  • Workshops with international burlesque performers for professional development

Let's help make my dream come true, let's get Lilly to Hollywood!

Also make sure to check out my website for more information on how you can help me get to Hollywood!

The Downlow on my trip! Part 1.

07/06/2017 at 4:12 PM

Hello everyone!!

After trying unsuccessfully to try and upload my photos and videos to my computer, I'm typing this on my phone so I can share videos and photos with you :)

So - I thought I'd do a quick debrief on my wonderful trip to Hollywood, Los Angeles - as you're the wonderful people who helped me get there! ❤️

To start: Hollywood Bound!

For those of you who weren't aware - Newshub did a wee feature on me and my trip to Hollywood. They also surprised me by sending the lovely Verity Johnson along to be my media for the trip! Insane huh?!

The weeks leading up to me going were insane. Long hours of performing and producing and trying my best to be a committed and present parent as well as trying to keep my head above water was pretty crazy. So I only started packing the day of the trip... and lucky my hubby had the smart idea to weigh my luggage as I was overweight 😂. After some repacking and a few tears as I said goodbye to my wee one and family, I was off.

I met Verity at the airport once I'd checked in and we went to the KORU lounge. So nice! Had a cheeky vino, bought some wonder drink which is meant to help you stay hydrated and prevent jet lag and we were off for the long (and my first) long haul flight.

To be honest, I was pleasently surprised! It was a great flight - a bit cramped and I only slept a couple of hours but overall I was feeling pretty good once we got off - must have been the wonder drink 😜

We were picked up from the airport by the lovely Heather and after a quick feed at this amazing Vegan food chain they have over in LA called Veggie Grill and a pit stop at MAC cosmetics, we then battled the gridlocked traffic - 3 hours.. THREE HOURS in traffic. Holy Jeez.

By this time I just wanted to curl into a ball and sleep forever, so I stayed with Verity and we slept until 1.00pm LA time the next day, haha.

But - then on the Thursday once we'd roused ourselves and had breakfast - Heather picked us up and we went to Universal Studios. I was like a kid in a candy shop - I was SO excited. Especially because of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter ⚡️.

I have so many videos. I'll compile them into a slideshow in the next week or so.

Verity and I shed a wee tear at the entrance of Harry Potter world - this was our childhood guys (and I unashamedly admit it's still very much a part of my adult life too!). I think Heather was a bit embarrassed of us 😂

We visited Honeydukes, The Three Broomsticks, went on the amazing Harry Potter motion master/roller coaster ride inside the castle - it was truly an amazing experience. I bought my family lollies and chocolate from Honeydukes and from one of the stores in Hogsmeade I bought myself a Ravenclaw Scarf.

#cawcawravenclaw

We did the tour (HIGHLY RECOMMEND), rode the Jurassic Park ride, walked what felt like miles and dined on Citywalk and had my first wine. Sorry LA - but as much as I enjoyed you, your wine really doesn't stand up to NZ. The one thing I really, really wanted was a good wine 😂

Friday was Show day for the Hollywood Burlesque Festival. It was a four day festival and I performed on the Friday night - so this day was pretty much dedicated to teching and performance. Although Verity and I did go to a 7/11 on our lunch break and buy a whole bunch of American junk food for her to write an article about. Poor love, you should have seen her face as she tried each thing. We had food like twinkies (which Verity said tasted like foam), dipping cheese in a can, Cheetos, pop tarts, etc.

I did my tech, and it went well. Oh my - it wasn't until this point that I got quite overwhelmed with just how nice and outwardly vocal Americans are. The tech crew were more than complimentary of my act and it set me up really well for my actual performance.

I got to chat and make friends with the other performers in my show, comparing the nz scene to theirs, what their backgrounds are, ect. Met some incredible people!

Show time! Gary was all ready with his new snazzy shirt made by Curvy Couture. I was 5th out of 8 in the line up for the first half and nailed it!

I went out in character, with my business cards in hand and Gary networked like never before. Again - the audience and performers there that night made me feel so loved up - the amount of wonderful compliments I received was so heartwarming. I left that night feeling so happy and confident in my abilities and what I can do as a performer. Saw some amazing acts and left totally inspired.

With Queen of Burlesque 2016 Poison Ivory and Mr Boylesque 2015 Matt Finish.

Its a genuinely nice feeling to know you nailed something in a country 12 hours away from you, and being the only kiwi there, it was an absolute honour.

Also - did you catch Gary on Newshub late on NZ Friday night?! I'll hopefully have a video to show you soon if you didnt x

Thank you so much to Lili VonSchtupp and the Hollywood Burlesque Festival crew for being so super professional and for having this wee kiwi over!

Thank you (to those reading) to all of you who helped me get to LA. I literally couldn't have done this without you. I hope I made you all proud ☺️

Part 2 is coming - hopefully with a video attached.

Stay tuned!

Gosh.. where do I start? Today I enter my "Flirty Thirties", I've just finsihed 7 days of work, 7 performances, and as I was coming back from dropping my darling girl at care, I see my PledgeMe has been funded with 24 days left! I burst out crying in my car. Thank you all so, so much <3

I am absolutely exhausted, and I want to spend my birthday binging on movies in bed and relaxing, as this week has been just insane. Good insane, but I need rest.

WE'RE ONLY $185.00 AWAY FROM MAKING TARGET!

01/03/2017 at 11:34 AM

WWWOOOWW!!!

We're only $185.00 away from making my target! OH MY GOODNESS! Seriously stunned people!

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has pledged thus far. Honestly making my day right now.

I'm sitting here after getting home and into bed at 2.30am after a long night of tech and dress for Coco for Rococo (by the way - get your tickets from www.iticket.co.nz) with my coffee in hand having a quiet moment admist the chaos. I knew from a young age I wanted to perform, being on the stage was my happy place, the place I felt at home. I wouldn't say I had it easy as a kid (being different ain't cool in the playground) and at significant times in my life when I've experienced hardship, performing and theatre has always given me back my hope and sence of self. That's in no way a pity post, it's a fact and as I sit here feeling sore, tired and drained... I couldn't be happier. I perform for a living - something I set out to do in 2013, and despite their being bumps in the road, with at one stage me almost quitting performing, I have kept going and it's the fabulous people around me such as my family, friends, producers, fellow performers and audience members who kept the spark alive. I am so happy to live the life I do, as well as be a parent, and although I'm pretty late to the whole overseas spreading my wings thing, it will be thanks to all of you that I get to make one of my dreams/bucket list goals come true. Honestly, I cannot thank you enough.

So - if you can, please SHARE the link, LIKE posts you see about the campaign on FB (more likes, more people see it) and if you feel like it, feel free to donate. Will be the best 30th birthday present you could gift this gal! (I turn 30 on Monday - jeebus, where the heck did that time go?!)

Also - check out the BABIN' pole performer and entertainer Sarah rockin' her Lilly Loca singlet. Ain't it AWESOME?

You can purchase your own one by heading to my merchandice store. There's also special limited edition singlets and merch by Studio81 and Bruce Jenkins Photography you can nab yourself too <3

Again, thanks to all of you.

Let's get Lilly to Hollywood!

Weekly Roundup - Thank Yous + Update

26/02/2017 at 8:18 PM

Hi Everyone!

I'm super exhausted after a huge weekend, but I couldn't go to sleep without doing my weekly roundup, which I promised ya'll, to say a tremendous thank you to all of those who have pledged so far on my campaign.

My PledgeMe campaign 'Let's Get Lilly Loca to Hollywood' went live Tuesday afternoon. It's now Sunday and with 20 pledgers, we've raised a grand total of $805.00! WOW. It's so, so humbling to see how many people have pledged - not only have they scored awesome rewards from my reward sponsors, but they've also helped me move forward inch by inch to reach my fundraising goal of $1,200.00. There's only $395.00 left to make until we reach target! Holy macaroni!

I'm not sure if you're aware of how PledgeMe works, but with a 'project' such as mine, you need to meet your target, or else you don't receive anything. I am so, so, so super thankful to those who have pledged so far - I can't thank you enough <3 So here's my weekly round-up to publicly thank you for your generosity.

  • Ivan Essin
  • Rhiannon
  • Steve Lloyd, Ken Samson, Georgia Anderson, Blu Marqueses, Nix la Faye, Julianne Andrews, & Lauren Ashton (they'd previously donated towards my raffle which I had to take down for legal reasons, so with their blessing, I have put their donations towards my PledgeMe campaign.
  • Amanda Howard
  • Hazel Airey
  • Melicorn MacMillan
  • Ella Macedo
  • Yvette Young
  • Jane
  • Tracey Fraser
  • Tim Stevenson
  • Pandora Cherie
  • Krisztina Rehorovsky
  • Jeremy Arkham
  • and to the 3 anonymous pledgers

a HUGE thank you <3

Also, important to thank my amazing reward sponsors.

There is still so many awesome rewards to nab - remember that every reward is discounted from it's normal retail value, so don't let these rewards go to waste. There's something for everyone, from signed posters from NZ burlesque queens to discounted show tickets and even a pet portrait!

Even if you cannot financially pledge - I'd be forever grateful if you'd share the campaign on your social media profiles. Spread the word.

Much love, and huge amounts of thanks (how many times can I say thank you in a post? lol).

Lilly xx

(now excuse me while I go and crawl into my bed)

    Stay tuned!

    Lilly xxx

    06/03/2017 at 11:15 AM

    OMG

This is, quite literally, the BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!

Gosh.. where do I start? Today I enter my "Flirty Thirties", I've just finsihed 7 days of work, 7 performances, and as I was coming back from dropping my darling girl at care, I see my PledgeMe has been funded with 24 days left! I burst out crying in my car. Thank you all so, so much <3

I am absolutely exhausted, and I want to spend my birthday binging on movies in bed and relaxing, as this week has been just insane. Good insane, but I need rest.

I will do a weekly roundup tomorrow.. but I just wanted to pop in to say a huge thank you to all 27 pledgers who have pledged, all my reward donors, and all of you who have shared my campaign.
