THE DASH VISION
Commuter trains from North Canterbury And Selwyn into Christchurch
Can you imagine how good that would be?!
Did you know the railway lines are within walking distance of most of the major hubs in Christchurch? How many businesses can you find on the satelite images? (See the stations further down)
Dash aims to be the first community owned commuter rail operation in the country. We have high goals because they're the ones worth aiming for.
Rangiora to Moorhouse in 37 mins in a relaxed enviroment with Wifi. Rolleston to Moorhouse 27 mins!!
There are 2 Budget categories:
1: Dash rail lite: $1.8m will run a functional budget service using older style 'legacy' platforms and only peak services.
2: Dash rail : $7m with modern platforms, facilities and some off peak services on more modern rolling stock.
As we aim to just get something started as everyone else seem to be dragging their feet - Dash lite it is ;)
PART 1: Overview
PART 2: Dash Rail values
PART 3: The Dash Plan (With pictures)
PART 4: Initial timetable (open to suggestion)
PART 1
Check out the map for our proposed services. It uses the existing rail infrastructure too!

PART: 2
DASH Values:
- Canterbury owned: Once established the commuity will own the service and it will NOT be sold to foreign entities. Canterbury will run it and build the next generation fleet using NZ education and NZ manufacturing.
- Working with local schools , businesses and councils we can make this a benchmark service.
- Scholarships and funding for biofuel research, the next generation carriages and community projects for homeless and at risk youth

PART: 3
DASH PLAN:
FYI -We are in a race against a foreign buyer for Aucklands rolling stock that we intend to use.
STEP 1: BUY 4 x ADK sets with capacity for 560 passengers per set. AND there is room for your bike!

STEP 2: The community will refine our plan on operations
STEP 3: Get our partners to carry out the work required
STEP 4: Start running trains (refining the services constantly)
STEP 5: Run the trains completely on alternative fuel within 5 years (Sooner with enough funding)

PART 4:
TIMETABLE
This is our current goal timetable

The People Behind Dash Rail - Canterbury commuter trains
Versatile and hard working. I have licenses in aviation, truck and machine operation. Having lived abroad and travelled around the importance of good public transport infrastructure has really been made apparent to me. And so I want to bring a tried and proven mass transport option to Christchurch to help lower the burden on the roads, the environment and the lower the stress on our over stressed community.

Hi everyone, as we hit the 3 week to go mark, share our pages like wildfire :) . I'm doing a leaflet drop in Christchurch, Rangiora and Rolleston this week and hitting the corporate sector as well.
Canterbury needs this, and it'd be great if it was owned by the people.
