The Railway Bogie

What is my project?

A children's picture book. The impetus to do something about The Railway Bogie happened when I sent it to a large pubisher (which shall remain nameless - and flightless) and had a reply saying how much the whole team had loved the book... However, due to the stomach churning nature of the story, and despite comparing it to Roald Dahl's Revolting Ryhmes (I think they were over egging the pudding there, as Dahl was a genius and I, alas, am not), they were scared to go ahead with it as they'd had their fingers burnt before with books that some adults didn't think were suitable reading material for young children. Although I knew that what they were saying was true in some respects (one of my friends was a little bit sick in her mouth when she read it for the first time), I also knew that every child I'd read the book to loved it. So I had to do something, and what I did was draw some pictures and put the book onto iBooks (and if you want to see what it looks like The Railway Bogie by Christopher Lllewelyn, my pen name, will be free to download for the duration of this Pledge Me Project). However, I quickly realised that an ebook is no substitute for an actual book, and that's what I want to do now, create an actual book.

What is the basic plan?

The basic plan is just that, basic. The book itself will be printed locally in Christchurch NZ - as keeping things local is also something I believe in - and will be A5 in size; following the idea that children's books should be children sized. I hope to get the finished article into a few local shops to start off with, and sell it for $14 (which is slightly more than I originally planned, but the best I can achieve printing on a small scale). This means it will be cheaper than the average $19+ for a picture book in NZ; and thus I will be doing my bit to bring down the cost of reading material. I have never done anything like this before, so timeframes may be wildy inaccurate, and unforseen problems have not been forseen - therefore, every bit of support offered will be received with a smile.

Am I going to change the world by creating this book?

No, I very much doubt it, but maybe a child that reads more will.

Have I missed anything?

If you have any questions about the Reward Tiers - or about anything really - please get in touch through www.greenandpinkbooks.com, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Another set of books have been posted out today, but I'm still missing 5 people's address (Sally, Carena, Haley, Jonathan, Sam). If you haven't sent through your postal details, please do... I'd love to get the book to you.

Cheers, Chris.

The Railway Bogie; Update #1

01/05/2017 at 5:02 PM

Hello everyone, and first of all thank you so much for pledging. It means a lot to me, and hopefully it will be the start of something interesting. I'll keep in touch with everyone via the 'update' facility on my pledge page (which, according to Pledge Me, you should receive as an email).

So this is the first update (as this is the first time there has been something to report).

The new illustrations are all complete and were dropped off at the printers today to be scanned. Once this has been done (which should only take 2 or 3 days) the scanned images will be sent back to me electronically for me to (somehow) add the text... I will let you know when this happens, and how it happens. At the moment I am still a little bit in the dark as to when the book will be finished, but hopefully this will become clearer as each stage is completed.

Thank you again for your support, and here's something to keep your thirst for original literature at bay while you await the book...

A procrastinator from Clyde,

thought he had time on his side.

He put everything off,

then developed a cough,

and last Sunday morning he died.

Carpe Diem,

Chris.
