THANK YOU EVERYONE!

-----

Hello, I directed a short film called ELLEN IS LEAVING.  Ellen (the main character) is pretty cool. She is recycling stuff before she heads overseas, including her boyfriend. She decides to gift him to a new girlfriend, but can she really give him up?

It's a slacker anti-romantic comedy set in Wellington, New Zealand.

I've been working on this film for over a year (with heaps of other great people as well of course) and it is finally having its international premiere at the Chicago International Film Festival (an Academy Award accredited festival)!

It will participate in the Short Film Competition. The Festival assembles approximately 50 of the most important short films from around the world to compete for the Festival’s highest honor, the Gold Hugo - which is pretty awesome.

There's only one catch....I can't afford to accompany the film on its big OE.  I really want to go to Chicago to promote the film, put up posters, hand out flyers, and do little interviews on the radio, because who else will? Plus I wouldn't want it to get lonely.

Can you help me go?

If you feel like this is a cause you want to support I'd love your help. Even one measley dollar would make a difference. All the money I raise will go towards my airfare and anything extra will be put into publicising the film. Take a look at the rewards too, they're pretty cool.

Here is my Bio:

After completing her Bachelor of Media Arts with Honours, her student film BETTY BANNED SWEETS, was accepted into several high profile, international film festivals including Melbourne International Film Festival 2008 where she was invited to participate in the Melbourne International Film Festival 'Accelerator' Programme. The film went on to screen at Gijon International Film Festival 2008, Aspen Short Film Festival 2009, International Festival of Rotterdam 2009, Edinburgh International Film Festival 2009 and was in competition at the Clermont-Ferrand International Festival 2009.

Her second film ELAINE RIDES AGAIN premiered at the New Zealand International Film Festival 2011, Show Me Shorts Festival 2011 and was in competition at the 58th Cork Film Festival 2011.

In 2011, Michelle spent three months in New York working as an intern in the script development department of Killer Films, a company at the forefront of independent American cinema headed by producers Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler.

Her most recent short ELLEN IS LEAVING was a finalist in the 'New Zealand's Best' Short Film Programme at the 2012 New Zealand International Film Festival.

When Michelle is not working on a film she is probably playing the omnichord and making music videos for Wellington band The Sing Songs.

Hi everyone,

I've cut together a little video of my time in Chicago so you can all see what I got up to over there. Thank you again for helping to make this happen.  It was great to be able to represent the film and well worth the trip.

There are other photos up on the facebook page too. Make sure to 'Like' the page so you can stay in the loop with other news and screenings.

In Chicago

21/10/2012 at 4:39 AM

Hello everyone,

I'm here in Chicago now and I just thought I'd give a little update about things. I spent the last few days putting up posters and flyers everywhere and the screening was sold out so I like to think my posters had something to do with that =).

The screening was last night and there was a great audience response to the film with lots of positive feedback and after the screening two people even asked for my autograph! A few New Zealanders were in the audience and found it refreshing to see Wellington and hear the NZ accent.

There was a Q&A after the screening although most of the questions were just comments such as:

"It didn't feel like actors acting, it just felt like we were watching a documentary"
Answer: Awesome, thanks.
"It felt like Ellen wasn't sure about actually leaving in the end, was this what you intended?" Answer: Yes!,
"The music was great, who did that?" Answer: Mark Brenndorfer, with songs by Bachelorette, Happy Trendy, and The Plot Club.

I'll be putting up a little video of my Chicago trip.  But for now you can see pictures of the screening on the Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ellenisleaving

Thanks again to everyone for the love and support.

Take care,

Michelle

p.s Postcards have been sent to those who wanted one, if you want one be sure to send me your address!
