Wellington Taco Cleanse

Project 2016-11-02 12:52:08 +1300

We have a dream.

We dream of a world in which vegans, vegetarians, omnivores and coeliacs can eat together. We dream of a world in which NO man, woman or child in Wellington goes without the tacos they need to live a full and rewarding life.

“Our dream is of tens of thousands of people in Wellington transforming their lives - finding more energy, more joy and more freedom - through tacos.” - Boquita founder and taco cleanser, Lucas Putnam

Scientists in Austin, Texas have confirmed that a taco-centric diet is beneficial to well being. The good people of Miramar have been experiencing the benefits of regular access to tacos for five years, and now we want to bring that well-being to central Wellington.

So give us your money!

Why? I don’t wanna taco bout it. I don’t have time, I’ll tortilla later.

Nah, but actually, please do give us your money. Because we want to make the best damn tacos in Wellington central and we want to help you transform your life while we do it.

See, there’s a lot of good food in Wellington. But there’s less food that looks after the planet and the people making it. And even less on top of that which is SO good it makes you drop your fork and call your mum about it. Which will make your mum come down and find it so good she’ll drop her fork and wish she knew how to log into Instagram about it.

That’s what we want to do. We want to make food that is really, thoroughly good. Good to eat, good for the planet, good for all the people who helped make it. Most of all - food that is insanely, stupidly good for you. So good it will change your life. And we want to start doing it right in the heart of Wellington. That’s why we need your money.

But we don’t want your money for nothing. We don’t want no cheques for free. In exchange for your hard-earned cash, we want to give you the world famous, life-changing TACO CLEANSE.

Yes, that’s right. We want to bring our all-good, guilt-free, tasty tacos into the city because, friends, it’s time for The Taco Cleanse - the tortilla-based diet proven to CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

Let’s be honest: nobody likes a cleanse. Okay, maybe a few people enjoy depriving themselves (yes, it’s a thing and we don’t judge it), but generally humans do not like cleanses. Cleanses are a socially acceptable approach to starving yourself, which is just not our cup of mezcal.

But the Taco Cleanse is something else entirely. The Taco Cleanse gives the middle finger to self-deprivation and says, ‘I am TACO, hear me roar!’.

The Inaugural Wellington Taco Cleanse is brought to you by the people who brought you La Boca Loca and who are ready to bring you delicious, plant-based TACOS in the city.

How does the taco cleanse work?

It’s up to you how strictly you follow the taco cleanse. Some people choose to substitute just one of their daily meals with a taco, others go all out and eat nothing but tacos for the entire month. Obviously, the more committed you are to the cleanse, the better the results. But even one taco a day has been found to improve mood and energy.

When we raise $15,000, we’ll be able to open Boquita in Kent Terrace. Boquita is La Boca Loca’s clean-eating, city-dwelling little sister. A new 100% plant-based taco joint in the city. Pledge now to do the Taco Cleanse, and you’ll be first in line for your daily taco fix when we open the doors.

Is the taco cleanse right for you?

Is that even a question? Do you have issues? We all have issues, in fact most of us have more issues than Time magazine. Get a taco in your mouth, learn to love your issues and embrace the future.

Still unsure? Here are some questions to help you decide if the taco cleanse is right for you:

  • Do you experience recurring feelings of hunger on a daily basis?

  • Do you experience a range of emotions?

  • Do you like food?

  • Do you enjoy eating your food with your hands?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, a Taco Cleanse may be right for you.

Where did the taco cleanse come from?

Like the breakfast taco, Explosions in the Sky and many other really good things, the Taco Cleanse comes from Austin, Texas. (Don’t get the explosions reference? Probably austin’ translation).

A little while ago, in service of the greater good, Austin taco scientists Stephanie Bogdanich, Wes Allison, Molly R. Frisinger and Jessica Morris decided to subject themselves to a month-long experiment: they vowed to eat nothing but tacos for every meal and report the results. The benefits were undeniable.

“In less than 48 hours,” says Wes Allison, “our complexion glowed and our irises clarified. Our vibrations were not only heightened but sustained. We were on the verge of a breakthrough.”

Here in Wellington, La Boca Loca and Boquita creator Lucas Putnam has replicated the Austin taco cleanse and reports similar results:

“I’m not only the Wellington Taco Cleanse President, I’m also a client. And if you pledge now I’ll send you a free cleanse report outlining the benefits of my own taco cleanse, which included happiness, satiation and popularity.”

The importance of community

Having a community to support and help you along the way is one of the most important aspects of the Taco Cleanse. Boquita will be a place for taco cleansers to gather, eat together and compare notes on the life-changing benefits of eating tacos.

When Lucas first cleansed, he found himself texting his fellow taco cleansers several times a day, comparing notes on the effects of various fillings, salsas and tortillas.

Try it. Commit to cleansing with your friends, family or co-workers or join our online taco cleanse community here in Wellington by using the hashtag #wellytacocleanse on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

What is a taco? And why is it so good for you?

All tacos are not created equal. But ours begin with 100% organic corn tortillas. That is the corn wrap that is a vessel to deliver the flavour to your face. It’s an edible serviette! And it’s delicious. When you start with a freshly pressed, handmade, 100% organic corn tortilla, your taco really can’t go wrong. Fill with your favorite veggies and chow down.

Where’s the beef? Or the pork for that matter?

Perhaps you noticed that we keep talking about ‘plant-based’ tacos? It’s true. There will be no meat or animal products at Boquita.

Do you love meat? Do you live for cheese? Good for you, friend, we’ve got no beef with that. You’ll still find carnitas tacos and quesos fundidos on the menu out at La Boca Loca - but for Boquita we’ve gone 100% plant-based on your asses.

Why? Firstly because we want Boquita to be that rare place where vegans, vegetarians, omnivores and coeliacs can eat together in harmony. Secondly, because we know that lots of folks are aiming to eat less meat and dairy and that really good, really delicious plant-based food can be tricky to cook at home when you’re pressed for time. Good beans take time, as Lucas likes to say.

Last, but not least, putting on our scientist hats: it takes like a billion times more energy & water to produce protein and nutrients in cow form than it does in vegetable form. So if you want to save the world and save your colon, get aboard the good ship Boquita.

“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly tacos.” - Michael Pollan

Are there any side effects of the taco cleanse?

Heaps, and they’re awful. First off, you’ll find yourself eating delicious things all the time, which can be very distracting to your day-to-day life. You may also find yourself irritable and impatient with foodstuffs that aren’t tacos.

Second of all, you’ll probably find yourself burdened by an abundance of energy. You may become burdened with indecision about how to spend those pesky extra years you’ll get to be alive.

WE DID IT!

From the team here at Boquita & La Boca Loca we wish to extend a huge thank you for backing this campaign, pledging to do the Taco Cleanse and making Boquita a reality.

We are super psyched to bring delicious tacos to the city and can't thank you enough for the massive support and enthusiasm everyone has shown towards the project.

With your help we managed to exceed our target which is an awesome result.

Now comes the fun part! In the next week we'll be putting the final touches on Boquita and planning our launch (more on that soon), and organising all of the rewards. We will be in contact soon about how you can redeem your Taco Cleanse or any other reward that you have pledged for.

Keep an eye out for an email from us very soon and once again thank you so much.

Thank you! Gracias!

To everyone who has already pledged to take the Taco Cleanse Challenge, and help us open Boquita in the city, a deep and massive THANK YOU!

Thanks to you, we’ve passed the the halfway point in our campaign, so we’ve gone ahead and ordered the Boquita uniforms. Exciting!

These aprons are perfect for the DIY taco cleanser who plans to make all their tacos at home, so we've added them to the rewards on our campaign.

Boquita aprons, modeled by Little Yellow Bord co-founder Hannah Duder

We collaborated with an amazing company called Little Yellow Bird to create these aprons. Little Yellow Bird, or LYB, create sustainably and ethically made uniforms so it was a no brainer to work with Sam and Hannah. The aprons are available in black or natural, with the Boquita logo.

Along with adding the aprons to our rewards, we have made another change. We are happy to announce that you can claim your Taco Cleanse tacos at both Boquita and La Boca Loca, we understand that some of our most loyal Boca peeps don't make it into town very often, but are still keen to support our plans and do the Cleanse. And who are we to deny such a life changing event!

If you haven't yet decided what to do for your work Christmas party, here's an idea!

Want to make your own tortillas and tacos? Sure!

Want to learn how to make the perfect Margarita? Ain't no thang.

Want an awesome night out with your staff at La Boca Loca? We got this!

You can pledge big to snap up one of the big rewards and we will work with you to customise it to your needs!

Drop us a line ([email protected]) or give us a yell (021 110 6086) to talk about customising one of the rewards just for you.

Gracias!
