About

GLOWBOT WARS

Project 2016-09-13 09:06:43 +1200

In the war between light and dark the only balance is The Board.

Two Glowbot armies stand ready to sacrifice themselves in tribute to the Kiwiburn Effigy. In pursuit of victory, they will be battling throughout the day and night until the King is captured and only one army remains. Honed by the fires of Kiwiburn, leaders for these automaton warriors must rise-up to strategise a way across the checkered field of battle.

Tacticians, make ready your plans . . .

Commanders, steady your hands . . .

Always remember that in all darkness lives light . . . and in light, shadows fall.

For Honor . . . For Glory . . . For The Board!!!

This is a large scale art project for Kiwiburn 2017.

We aim to create a life size chessboard with Robot characters as the pieces. They will glow in dark so that the game can be played both day and night.

The largest of the pieces (the King and Queen) will be approximately 1.5 meters high by approximately 550mm circular diameter. This will create a chess board approximates 5 meters sqaure.

This project is being done in conjunction with acclaimed street artist Cracked Ink.  Originally from the UK, Cracked Ink has been part of the NZ street art scene ever since he made the move down under 10 years ago.  Cracked Inks quirky, character based art is bold and eye catching, whether it be an art piece from a gallery or a mural in the street.

Predominantly an aerosol artist, Cracked Ink also utilities other creative avenues which include, sketching, Painting and Sculpting which have been some of his favourite mediums to work in over the past few years. His work can be seen all around Auckland, Wellington, Whanganui, and many other New Zealand cities. Furthermore, he has recently completed a few high end commissions including a wall for MOTAT.

Head to www.facebook.com/crackedinkart  or www.crackedink.com to check out more of his work.

Cracked Ink incorporates quite a few Robot characters into his existing street art and he has created a custom set of robot characters for the Glowbot Wars chess pieces. This will make each chess piece a custom artwork of it's own.

How the chess pieces will be produced will depend on the funding that can be secured. The ultimate goal it to print the characters onto 10mm clear acrylic, which will allow the characters to be seen from the front and back. The outlines and details of the characters will be CNC routered into the Acrylic. When lit from the edge by LEDs, any area that has been routered will catch the light and GLOW!!

Any extra funding rasied will go towards making this installation bigger and better!!

UPDATE!!

The GLowbots made it to Kiwiburn and it was a big success!!

People followed the glow from all over the Paddock, and stayed to play a game or two . . .

Or have some fun in their robotic glow . . .

NOW IT IS TIME FOR YOUR REWARDS!!

Get yourself something to remember the epic Glowbot Wars of Kiwiburn 2017

Like a patch or  . . .
