'Burnt Chops'

Burnt Chop Syndrome - verb:  'The condition in which one [accidentally] burns a small percentage of chops while cooking dinner; serves said chops to oneself whilst giving the perfectly cooked ones to the rest of the family, thus avoiding any unnecessary drama and/or tantrums'.

[Explore also: martyrdom, motherhood, insanity, sacrificial, “building a rod” ].

Burnt Chops is a fresh, dynamic new web-series that will give our audiences a window into the isolated & relentless world of motherhood. It is unique in it’s structure and content - stories about realistic mothering are exceedingly rare in popular culture. The first episode allows us to meet all the mothers together at a coffee group. From there, each episode will follow one of the mums in a day of their life, providing a brutally honest portrait of their lives, struggles and identity crises.

But why?

Women flourish in community. ‘Mommy blogs’ are a huge force online because there are creative, educated, ambitious women at home raising their children and they want to grow and share their experiences. With that in mind, we feel that a creative expression of the conversations within these blogs and ultimately our own experiences, is an opportunity not to be missed. We feel that we can indeed give a voice to the many mothers out there, who are not only  under-represented on screen, but are crying out for honest dialogue between each other. We want to bring to light the questions every mother has in the back corners of their mind, that they are too afraid to ask even their closest friends. We want our audience to recognise themselves and feel validated in the struggle that parenting can bring.

What are our goals?

We are going to produce a professional grade, highly entertaining web-series that can be enjoyed by the masses. We are going  to release this series through a specalised distribution system so that we can pay all practicioners involved a fair amount, and make a return on the series. Making a viable return will enable us to fund future content, to keep entertaining and telling stories!

Ultimately though, we are going to make something that YOU can be proud that you have contributed to. Something that you want to watch, and can recognise yourself in.

The team behind Burnt Chops is made up of highly experienced practitioners from the Wellington region, all actively involved in the film industry as actors and crew. Previous credits from members of our team include working on Pork Pie (2016), What We Do in The Shadows (2014), Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016), Black Sheep (2006), Doubt: The Scott Watson Case (2016) and MANY MORE!
