About

Wellington Athletic Rugby Football Club World Tour 1966

Project 2016-08-22 13:36:58 +1200

Hi, I’m Neven MacEwan All Black 1956-62. My project is to publish a book recording what has been described "A Trip of a Life Time". The book takes you on an incredible journey around the world. It was the first and likely to be the only one in the history of New Zealand; indeed, global Rugby. 12 matches; 6 in England; 1 in Ireland; 1 in Hong Kong and 4 in Japan were played in 35 days. Read about how the tour came about. The challenges of organising the tour, and the achievements and contributions this team made to rugby.

Our book has something for everyone. It’s humorous, chatty and challenging, and  highlighted by the recall of  players.

It is hoped the book will inspire new generations of pioneers to dream their dreams and work hard to ensure their dreams come true.

Vince Lombardi the great American Football (Gridiron) Coach, put it this way:-

“We will accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible.”

Your support will ensure the book is published and our Target Amount covers, research, writing, graphic design and publishing costs for the book.

All donations both small and large gratefully received. For every $100 donated the supporter receives an autographed copy of the book and a Certificate of Purchase.

Together we can record for posterity an historic adventure which has remained untold until now.

The journey Athletic undertook lays claim to numerous world firsts; furthermore, it stands unequalled in touring folklore.

The book is being released on the 8th October 2016 to coincide with the first match of the tour in 1966 against Harlequins played at Twickenham, London. Athletic won 9-6.

Thank you for your generous support.
